The Mazatzals (Section 23A) Mt Peeley to Barnhardt trail

So I am planning on going out to do a assessment of the trail from Mt Peeley to Barnhardt canyon Trailhead from the 14th of March to the 17th of March. Will park at the Mt Peeley trailhead and hike out and back and figure out what actions need to be taken to get that segment in good shape. Maybe do a little limb lopping etc on the way. If anyone is interested in joining me please let me know.

Cool, I should bump into you, I will be coming up from 18 on a little thru hike myself. If the conditions are similar to last year, a few miles after Peeley there will be some stretches of that annoying shin height manzanita, and a few more areas of trail being swallowed up by some New Mexican Locust where the trail contours in and out of the major drainages off the back side of Mazzy Peak and as you get closer to Barnhardt...Wont be up for any maintenance on this one, but will appreciate anything you get done and will be sure to say hello

You will likely encounter a youth crew south of the Barnhardt Junction. ATA is sending and funding one to handle some serious washouts and then continue brushing. AND, the ATA applied and was awarded just today a grant for more trail work in the Mazatzals, so help is on the way! Squeaky wheel gets some grease . . .

Any of the $ designated for North Peak Trail? The upper 2 miles of it is seriously manzanita-ed. Or is it strictly for the AZT?

Hello. Not sure if you are an AZT Steward or Regional Steward, but if you are not would you please help the AZT and update your hours that you were out on the trail assessing that section(s). This can be done at the AZT website. Please include your travel time from your home and back also. This way we can add it to the hours in the database for trail volunteer hours. This helps the AZT when it comes to getting grants to help keep this wonderful trail system going. Example is like what Sredfield stated we have a youth crew out helping in the Mazatzals. If you have any questions on how this can be done PM me and I will help you out.
