Fire Lookout Website

In my search for info on Aztec Peak Lookout I found a great website just for fire lookouts, complete with topos and history!!!! http://www.firetower.org

Thanks for making that post! Last Saturday we stopped by the Grandview Lookout Tower which sits a along the Coconino Rim a little ways south of the Grand Canyon's South Rim. They had quite a bit of interpretation on the tower and even a link to something called 'firelookout.net.' I am pretty sure that URL has become the one you mention in your post. Grandview is definitely listed on the URL you mentioned but it's not shown on the Arizona map. You can to scroll through the entire Arizona list to find it. Visiting lookouts can become an addiction with some people! We ven read about some guy who bought a 'surplus' lookout tower and put the little steel house on stilts in his backyard! Probably the two best local lookouts we known of are Apache Maid and Baker Butte. They are both large enough to accommodate LOTS of people and they are staffed by real nice people. Now, who can find a website that explains how to use the weird 'Osborn (sp?) Fire Finder' they use in all those towers?

Great website find! I don't think this list is complete for all fire lookouts, only those that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. I also noted Diamond Point Lookout (North East of Payson) is on the National Register of Historic Places but is not listed on the website. Other lookouts located on the Tonto National Forest include Signal Peak (South of Globe), Humboldt Mtn (North of Cave Creek), Mt. Ord (North East of Mesa), McFadden Peak (South of Young) Colcord Mtn. (North of Young) and Aztec Peak (South of Young). The only one of these that I am aware that is not in use is Humboldt Mtn.
