Hiking vehicles

What kind of vehicles do you guys all drive when your going hiking? Im thinking about investing in a 4wd high clearance Jeep or something of the sort so I could get to some places where I definitely couldnt get to with what Im driving now (73 mustang):) I saw a Jeep Grand Cherokee today for $2600 and I was thinking about checking it out. What "hiking vehicle" is easiest to drive and which gets the best gas mileage (even though I know most wouldnt be too fuel efficient.)

I've had a rattle around my catalytic converter for a while, too. I'll have to look for rocks now.

And that is probably all it is. Mine was very loud, which was strange. The engine still knocks plenty, but the car sounds so much better without the rattle.

Do people have thoughts on sports cars, like the Mazda Miata, Vs. Camaro, or something like a Honda CRZ?


Honda used to make a sports car, but they stopped around the same time as they stopped making the Element. What other options for something that is actually fun or enjoyable to drive, that is NOT a lumbering beast like an Outback, are there?

The Mrs. and I would love to get a Veloster turbo. I also like the Lexus CT Hybrid. But I'm happy with my 1990 BMW 325i.

I like the road to the hospital. God forbid something ever happens to me, I think I'd prefer the trip to the ER on a road.

Even Doc Baker's house calls in Walnut Grove were easier done by taking his wagon out to the farm on a road.

I like smooth asphalt and concrete roads. Good for going fast. I also like hair-pin turns, steep mountain grades, and long lines of sight, also for going fast. These are a few of my favorite things.

I'm terrified of going very fast, can't afford tickets, and love the Jeep Liberty I bought recently.

Go with the Miata... the most fun car I've ever owned! The nimble, predictable handling made for thrilling four-wheel drifts.

Having put more than 50 years of my life on two wheels with a power to weight ratio four wheels will never get, I say cars are great to get you to and from work, or the cougar laden grocery store you shop at. After two wheels, four suck.
Now there is a plethora of dual purpose bikes that can get you from highway to dirt and to more places than most four wheels will get and cheaply and much more funnly.

Oh man it takes me back to Tote Gotes. In the 60's they had Tote Gote hill climbs in what is now the Dreamy Draw area. Ever wonder how all those trails got there?

I think a '73 Ford Falcon Interceptor would work well as a HAZ ride.
