I've only been in the area just north of FR300. It's one of the lushest parts of the rim. Holds snow as late into the spring as anywhere up there. Lots of grass and dense forest growth with a lot of fir.
Haven't been in either canyon anywhere near the lake. Looks like it's worth an exploration though.
