AZT Hike/Backpacking #1-3

Post by WanderingWildcat »

From September 3 (Saturday) to September 5 (Monday), I will be hiking/backpacking AZT Passages #1 - 3, from the Mexico Border to Patagonia.

Spending Saturday night at Parker Canyon Lake campsite. Sunday night will be a tent pitch off the trail in the wild.

Would any other hikers be interested in going with me?

Wish I could!
But holiday weekend = busy time at the Park, plus of course it's right before my GC trip.

No worries. I'm going to eventually hike the entire AZT so lots of other weekends with hikes planned.

Throughout August I am planning to hike passages #14-18.

Click on the appropriate passage on the AZT page. In the top right, click on Historical Weather.

I think historical weather is only available on desktop. Mobile shows the current forecast, which in this case should result in very similar temperatures to what they will be next month since July and August don't vary too much on average temps.

Stavman - for passages 14-18 for Aug will be hot since a major portion of these passages fall under the desert portion of our state. You will need to plan your water wisely and carry plenty of it, hike only in the cool part of the day or at night. If possible I would hold off and do these passages in the late fall or spring.

@Stavman
August is not a good time for the desert passages, it is unbearabley and dangerously hot. Why not head north for the cool?

I'm looking for a hiking partner to section hike the whole trail. I'm a nurse. I can't join you this weekend because I'm on call, but would love to try to do other weekends. Maybe we could give it a try in October?

I'll be hiking a couple of different Arizona Trail Passages this weekend with some friends, up in the Mazatzals. So I will still need to hike Passages #1-3 at some point. Perhaps the holiday weekend in October :)

I am also hiking the Grand Canyon in October, near the end of month. I'm available the other weekends.
