There used to be a party supply store listed in the middle of the White Tanks or Estrella Mountains, can't remember which. I should have taken a screenshot when I had the chance.

Ever been to Aravaipa from the East side? Santa Teresas or Galiuros? It's worth stopping at the church for a bit. You'll probably see things differently when you leave.

Hadn't seen the javelina one before. Cute! It's funny, though, as a tour guide on the South Rim, I have people all the time who expect it's going to be 110 when it's only going to be 80. They just flat don't get it. I tell them: "Climate in Arizona is a function of elevation above sea level."

Of course, the most expensive gear comes from cottage manufacturers, but I can definitely relate to this.

Not for the really lightweight gear (I've looked). But you can find a lot of good stuff for sale on the forums on backpackinglight and sometimes on whiteblaze. That said, if you're looking for something very specific, you're probably going to have to buy it from the manufacturer.

It appears an artist got creative today (last evening) near Casa Grande and turned a cement truck drum into a space capsule, causing multiple calls to DPS, etc.....

I can beat that. I've owned four tarptents, two of which are my primary backpacking tents (1 single, 1 double). Two of them I bought from guys who posted scathing reviews online. In both cases, I sent a PM offering to buy, since they were both tents whose introduction I'd been eagerly watching for. Neither had been camped in, and one hadn't even been set up. The buyer took one look after unpacking it and said "nope, I hate it". It's my favorite tent.
