Big rains up north today. The Virgin through Zion is in flash, as is the Paria at over 1000cfs. I'd expect Buckskin Gulch is also running. Hopefully no hikers are out in the slot canyons today.
Lots of active Flash Flood Watches, Flash Flood Warnings, and Flood Warnings across the borderlands of Utah and Arizona.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
While I was obviously less than enthused about Paine's remnants essentially canceling my plans to go to Colorado this week during a long planned 7 day off stretch, and I found it to be more or less a nuisance as the rains in Arizona did not really fall on Phoenix's watershed (though the extreme upper Verde area got some decent totals), Paine did have some positive impacts in areas that really needed precipitation. Not in Arizona, so much, but California.
Mountain San Jacinto officially picked up 1.95 inches, and probably got more near the summit. The station reports from 8616', at what I assume is the upper tram stop. Lots of precipitation all along the extreme southern California Costals in San Diego County, and down in to Mexico. I would think that Picacho Del Diablo got a good amount, too. It's either too late or too early to do much, but it can help the trees for next year, even if they aren't growing. Mount Laguna reports 1.62 inches, which is probably very good for mid-September. Normally very dry Palm Springs picked up 92/100ths, Borrego Spring appears to have had 28/100ths, and Ocotillo Wells had 31/100ths.

It's scary windy right now in Williams. I live in an RV under a cottonwood tree. Thankfully it's not a really big one.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
For the last three weeks they've been crediting "monsoon season" for decidedly un-monsoon related rain.
I wonder what they're calling it today?
Besides unexpected, I'm calling it awesome!
A couple of hours of steady rain and some heavy showers is an ideal way to start a Sunday in my book!

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
I feel like there have been many storms forecast days in advance that turned out to be way less exciting than today's "out-of-nowhere" rain event. What a pleasant day of steady drizzle and occasional heavier showers! Looks like a band from South Mountain across the southeast valley toward northeast Mesa did best, with about half an inch of rain on average.
Looks like the Supes did ok, and the Ancha too.
Do the models ever feel bad about being so damn wrong about things? ;)

2/3 inch at my house. Guessing South Mountain got an inch plus. JJ and I got hammered multiple times on our hike, all the washes were flowing.

This is the 8th straight rainy day in NJ, with perhaps one more to go. We might see the sun a few times before whatever the hurricane brings.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
Summer rain totals statewide.
On the initial view, it looks relatively good, especially across the important mountainous areas.
