Well whatever was supposed to happen keeps decreasing at least for the central Arizona deserts. I could envision it now not raining at all in the valley, or perhaps just a short shower as the front moves through. Hopefully the winds will wring some upslope moisture out in the mountains. Doesn't look like much more than half an inch in most places even then. Certainly doesn't seem to be the kind of system that should alter weekend plans in the lower elevations.

NoCal is a different story! :y:

Looks like the low is going further north, and non-coastal areas south of 35 degrees north are getting less than initially forecast, but the current 5 day QPF show very good total for Southern California, the Spring Mountains, and it seems like all of Utah, Western Colorado, Wyoming, and the Kaibab Plateau. Much will fall as rain, but this is a warm system. The snow level in the High Sierra is forecast to start at 8,000', and then drop a bit, producing 2 to 4 feet of snow, with up to 6 feet in some locations! I think the Sierra totals are pretty impressive.

I wonder what Snowbowl will report, as Mount San Jacinto above Palm Springs at 8600' reports an impressive liquid precipitation total of over 2 inches. All of it RAIN!

Also, one webcam at SB appears to show rain falling, to me.

Hey, I guess in California, water at this point is still water.

Skiers reported leaving Snowbowl this morning due to rain below midway.

Their marketing department posted photos of the bottom when it was snowing.

NOAA rain totals for the Supes are around 1/4 inch, up to 1/2 an inch in some spots. Another 1/4 - 1/2 an inch predicted for tonight (looking at Rogers Trough TH forecast). 8)

When that much rain falls, some big areas turn into oceans of deep, sloppy mud. One of them is the last few miles of the Fireline Trail coming in to Reavis. Much of the water from the higher ground funnels into that alluvium before the junction. And I still have nightmares about the same thing happening to my camp at the other end (Campaign), where the ground liquified and a sheet of water flowed over it into the creek.

I had a similar experience last fall coming out of Reavis Ranch, after a good rain. The trail pretty much turns into a small creek near Fireline and it's a slip and slide.

Very happy about this rain, and it is supposed to stay warm next week! :y:

Out here in Needles, hanging out on the riverbank with Spike. (Snoopy's brother.) We had a very few raindrops night before last, and a lot of wind yesterday. Judging by the clouds I could see across the river there may have been actual rain in the Warm Springs Wilderness/Black Mountains area.

Snowbowl reports 9" storm total. The Payson-Rim area looks to have gotten 1-2" of rain. I think I got .00001" in my yard Thursday night. :(
