fairly easy/moderate backpack into the heart of Sierra Ancha, walking thru a shallow canyon (Reynolds Creek) on a generally scenic trail(s) to a small spring among pines with good, nay... Great views into the canyons leading into the Cherry Creek drainage below.
we'll meet in ft. mcdowell and drive up the hill to the [ Reynolds Creek Trail #150 ] and take it past Murphy Ranch, then hook back north to a wooded area near Edwards spring. the views into the eastern Sierra Ancha Wilderness made for one of the best sunrise' i've ever seen.
my estimate is betwenn 5.5 and 6 miles each way. with 1300 feet elevation gain & loss, this is a good trip for backpackers who have some experience.. but you don't have to be an expert.
we will stay the night under clear, cool skies with an expected high of just 55° and a low of near 39! this is a decent way to test those base layers you just bought on clearance and didn't expect to use until this fall..!
this trip is great for beginners and experts alike. but, please be self sufficient.. you'll need to stay warm, dry, and well fed/hydrated. there is water along the trail - and most likely at camp via Edwards.
return trip is the same as going in, sometime when everyone feels like heading back home on sunday.
*right across the street from the chevron baja gas station at the last light, Southeast side of the building.. 8 am. it's a short hike so we don't need to be there super early. a 2 hour drive from mesa, 1.5 from ft mcdowell..
i have a faded red montero with hikeaz stickers..

Looks fun, I'm interested. Where at Ft. McDowell, the Chevron at the last light on the Beeline? When? Thanks!

Re: View the Sierra Ancha canyons
Well I got my stitches removed this morning. My doctor told to stick to short hikes and no up hill for a least 2 more weeks. Will see, but I won't be doing this trip for now.

@te_wa
@DBmooner
From your weekend backpack, does anyone have a pic or two of "Edward Spring" status you could post? and/or just update the spring label status. Thx!
