Re: Mindless weather chit chat
Yeah....I wasn't really soliciting for suggestions over the time to journey outside, I was posting that when I went out at 10 (at work) it felt hotter than I expected, and I wondered if it was psychological. At 1:30, it didn't feel as bad as I expected, so who knows.
BTW, it did feel pretty hot at 7 AM when I got to work, but it still felt hot at 10 AM.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
NWS posted earlier that PHX broke the record with 116 today. The 5-minute observations at PHX showed 117 at 14:20, but I'm not sure if that's official.

New record high for Phoenix today, 116. Only 3 degrees off of 119 some 2 weeks ago, but it feels so much cooler.

117 just confirmed on that evil social site. Breaks the 115 record from 1905.

"Only" 111 for a high in Tucson today but it broke the daily record that has stood since 1942.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
Phoenix NWS ended up posting a FB thing saying that 118 was the new record for today. Now, I know it has been two weeks now, but when it was 119 everyone seemed to be going insane. Today, hardly anyone bats an eye. What gives? Guess we've just gotten used to it. Maybe it is more localized to Arizona?

I can assure all that I had good reason "to be going insane"Jim_H wrote: Now, I know it has been two weeks now, but when it was 119 everyone seemed to be going insane.

At 1pm, my 23 year old residence central A/C unit finally bit-the-dust. I had enough fans to survive the day and night but this was a date record that will forever be etched in my memory. Surprisingly, my townhouse complex had a huge crane and new unit with install support outside my unit parking lot at 6:15am on Wed-6/20 and fortunately I had A/C again at 7:45am

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
Under the old dew point guidelines, both PHX and TUC should reach the necessary thresholds for the start of the monsoon in the next two days. This will mean that both cities will have reached the start of the monsoon within 1 day of the historical average starting date.
*Of course we don't use the dew point thing anymore, and the monsoon actually started on June 15th.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
The Tucson area got a good monsoon soaking beginning late yesterday afternoon and lasting through the night. Unfortunately the Pima County rain gauge site has been down. Here at the house at the south end of Sahuarita we recorded 0.95" in our rain gauge and it is still raining lightly. I'm about to head up to Madea Canyon and will be checking the big rain gauge at the Santa Rita Lodge.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
Madera Canyon recorded about 1.66 inches of rain at the Santa Rita Lodge rain gauge from the monsoon that started late yesterday afternoon continuing through the overnight. However, it wasn't enough to re-charge the dry creeks.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
Client with a rain gauge recorded slightly under 3 inches in her back yard. It tore a gully in my front yard and deposited a nice mini construction size pile of dirt and gravel on the sidewalk. A little shovel and rake work and some rock work and it looks ok again, has never done that before but always a first time.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
We got our first monsoon rain last night. Yippers! Did my 10 mile hike in Deem Hills this morning. It was very nice with no dust after the rains. I ended up with sopping wet socks and shoes though. No it wasn't from puddles on the trail, it was from my sweat soaked shirt and shorts dripping down my legs into my shoes. Go figure.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
Was up in Flag Wednesday afternoon through Saturday morning (July 12 - 15). There was a bit of rain Wed afternoon around 4:00PM Wed; at least 2 hours' worth (plus small hail) Thursday afternoon (starting about 2:30PM on Kachina Trail); and a bit more Friday just after 4:00PM up at Lockett Meadow. Very wet feet on Thursday's hike, because of huge ferns overlapping Kachina trail, collecting water to dump onto my legs & socks, which then wicked the H2O down into my shoes for me. Hope I remember to not pay for GTX linings the next time I buy hiking shoes or boots! I'm glad of the moisture, though, since fire restrictions were scaled back to at least allow fires in campgrounds on Coconino NF.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
Another monster storm today in my area. 1.93 inches rain in last 2 hours, 2.69 in last 24 hours, and still raining.
My total for July is now 6.00 inches and for the year 7.49. Getting impressive.
