Shenanigans at Burro Creek
Sheesh, people are CRAZY
http://azdailysun.com/news/local/flagst ... 0819a.html
If above link does not work basically a crazy guy posed as a BLM campground host, shot at some Kayakers on the creek, including writer Tyler Williams ( I have his AZ book) collected money and threatened people, then got taken to court.

The guy has been arrested and charged with numerous felonies. Here is a story out of Kingman with details from the MCSO

Re: Shenanigans at Burro Creek
What kind of moron owns land (emphasis on land) passionately enough to shoot at "trespassers," without understanding that waterways are not private property?

Re: Shenanigans at Burro Creek
@neilends
In this case... his mom. Who he also pointed his gun at. (Allegedly).
While the law may be murky with regards to navigable waterways (and whether or not Burro Creek is considered to be navigable) it's not murky as to if you can shoot at somebody even if they are trespassing.
His lawyer should be begging for a deal. IMO. Because I don't think he will have any chance to convince a jury he was just out one day randomly target shooting.

The crazy dude is aged 60 and they called him "elderly" in the story!RedRoxx44 wrote:Sheesh, people are CRAZY

Since this particular "moron" (neilends's word) does not even own the land in question, I'd say he does not have any claim re any alleged "trespassing."
Even if he did own the land - like others have said, I don't think the law allows you to shoot people, or threaten and hold them at gunpoint, for "trespassing." Coupled with the previous behavior re the campground, and threats to shoot at other river users, it sounds like this is one individual who should not be allowed to possess firearms any more, imho. His excuse about target practice reminded me of the shots I heard while hiking off-trail recently up by Snowbowl - the guy at 911 said target practice is allowed "as long as he's not shooting toward a campground." Be careful out there, everybody.

Reality hurts. With average life expectancy around 80, the definition of elderly for somebody who has already lived 75% of his life is technically correct.amy1300 wrote:The crazy dude is aged 60 and they called him "elderly" in the story!![]()
Not that I would know, I'm still not even mature.

That follow-up story pointed out by Al, has links to stories suggesting a couple of additional excuses the moron could try in court:
https://kdminer.com/news/2016/aug/07/se ... -man-shot/ (Driving strapped; seatbelt hit trigger)

Re: Shenanigans at Burro Creek
I assume he's a first-time offender and probably has a bunch of emotional and/or mental issues. I'd expect a guilty plea and some minimal amount of jail time subject to compliance with some strict probation conditions. He sounds like a domestic violence threat to the rest of his family, not to mention to the public.

I hope the perpetrator learns a lesson, along with everyone who might think of doing anything similar.
