Nov 250 Mile Section Hike: Advice, please

Post by Hikeandbikethislife »

Hello,
Any advice greatly appreciated.
From the UK, in the USA right now and have approximately 18 to 20 days free this November. What better way to spend that than hiking! Am trying to research sections of the Arizona trail and want to find a section of about 250 miles (depending on difficulty).
So far I am looking at:
1). Accessing near Phoenix and finishing near Flagstaff,
or 2). Flagstaff to Grand Canyon south rim (or north rim and back to south rim).
or 3). Another suggestion from people on the forum.

Factors to worry about include:
-Water supplies (AZT website seems to have good info on this)
-Encountering snow, ice, extreme cold (would I need to bring crampons, ice axe or snow shoes?, not experienced in this)
-having access towns/resupply points nearby (will be very difficult for me to leave caches as using public transport, shuttles or taxis)

Done quite a lot of online research and Arizona trail seems like the best option given it being November, accessibility, and that it sounds a stellar hike.

Have some previous thru-hiking experience in other countries. Fit and healthy.

Not that I'm a through hiker, but I would start north and head south to lower. warmer climate to keep ahead of approaching winter. Plan starting in Flag southbound. If when you get here the weather forecast is unfavorable, move your start to Pine, which is 1500 feet lower.

Have you hit the AZ border yet? Up north is looking good - cold but clear. Grand Canyon would be beautiful and a MUST SEE, then you can hike south to Flag - no worries with snow for now. Pretty hike and easy enough miles. If you'd prefer desert, then Four Peaks south, through the Superstitions and on towards Oracle or even Tucson would be great too.
