Of primary concern to most HAZ users is that northbound I-17 will be repaved on the 30 miles south of Flagstaff. If you make weekend trips up north this summer, this could cause delays during peak traffic times.
Also worth noting is that the projects on I-40 west of Flagstaff will reduce traffic to 1-lane in each direction all summer long. Hikers heading to Grand Canyon may opt for US180 from Flagstaff instead of I-40 to AZ64 via Williams.
All the projects are scheduled to be completed by fall 2018, but even ADOT acknowledges this is unlikely to be the case!

On. 40 I believe they are going to continue the big project of repaving with cement instead of asphalt. Much of this will be west of Williams. What was done last year is a stretch of east-bound just west of WIlliams. It is truly amazing pavement and I look forward to its completion. As a river shuttle driver I will be traveling through there often to go to Diamond Creek. But this year it's going to be very slow.

Okay well I will look at the links when not on phone. What I saw two days ago was work being readied, batch plant middle of freeway, signs up just east of Ash Fork saying work to begin this week.
And if you haven't driven that eastbound stretch by Devil Dog Road, check it out.

Okay on laptop. Yes, cement for the Williams to Devil Dog section. One hopes that they would have plans to do the whole freeway in cement, but for Parks to Riordan it doesn't specify cement, whereas for that Devil Dog area it does. Thanks for the links. We should change your name to "Linkley."

First, let me take this opportunity to mention how much I don't miss living in Flagstaff! I don't!
Second, I'll say I'm glad that the I-17 ramp closure should over by the time I visit.
Last, I am glad that I decided months ago to go to the Whites before I visit the Peaks this June or summer. Also, I believe the road will be paved in gold, due to the costs. Gold surfacing with Ivory guard rails.

Oh, but I was posting from Direct Experience, having seen the signs on I-40 for several weeks. "Construction will begin April 2." And last late summer we got stuck in the one hour delay, same place, while they were doing the eastbound lanes.
