Arizona Hiker Found.... Such a Shame.... I can relate to this. Although it wasn't Weather Related, we had a bit of an Adventure last Month. And no one died fortunately, but it was a long, long Day/Night, with several Lessons learned....

Fatality for Arizona Hiker on Mt. Hood
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming, "Wow What a Ride!"

Re: Fatality for Arizona Hiker on Mt. Hood
Sorry to hear unfortunately people get lost frequently on Hood. The slopes and trails are not on the fall line to Timberline Lodge. When I patrolled there we used to have to put up fog markers to mark the fall line in case of snow or reduced visibility otherwise people routinely end up in the adjacent canyon.

Re: Fatality for Arizona Hiker on Mt. Hood
Very sad.
I don't think anyone left an injured person behind. Sounds like he was tired and they decided to complete the last ~1 mile at different paces. I've done it several times when hiking with another person, sometimes while leading and sometimes while trailing. Probably not the 100% safest decision, but also not that bad. I'm not going to cast any judgment on his hiking buddy or their mutual decision in this tragic incident.
