Re: Mindless weather chit chat
So glad I have the ability to snowbird. 36 degrees in Flagstaff this early morning. I moved away from there one week ago. Today I would have had to wear jeans, shoes, a beanie, gloves and a jacket to work, instead of shorts, sandals and a t-shirt. Perish the thought!

I'm more interested, as in hoping it stays away, in Hurricane/ T.S. Sergio. That might impact the SW next week. What ever happened to dry and nice?

Pay attention to the current 7 day QPF, and continue to watch that if you enjoy such things. The second link talks about the driest recorded years in Los Angeles. La is steadily becoming a desert, dry as Phoenix, or the northern Baja.

There is snow visible on the grass and in the trees on the I-40 ADOT webcam west of Flagstaff near the Arizona Divide. Flagstaff reports several hours of light snow and mist with a temperature of 32 this morning.
I already miss 100 and dry, but then I never wanted it to go way.

Wow! Copious amounts of precipitation around the Valley today. Closest gauge to my house is approaching 2 inches. I can not recall an October so wet or so cool, and more impressive is that this is all in the first 2 weeks.

According to the paper, a few days ago this October was the 2nd wettest October on record in Phoenix. After today, it might be #1.Jim_H wrote: I can not recall an October so wet or so cool, and more impressive is that this is all in the first 2 weeks.

What's a newspaper? It's this thing that I read while listening to my 8-track tape player and when I am not talking on my landline.chumley wrote:What's that?![]()

"Sky Harbor has so far picked up 1.32 inches of rain so far. We've hit our wettest October on record in Phoenix, per the National Weather Service."

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
I'm over in Joshua Tree for 4 days. Last night I endured, while "sleeping" in my tent, what was said to be the biggest rainstorm in 30 years here. Highway 62 was closed, covered 20 feet deep in mud, with several cars stuck in it, including an ambulance. I haven't had to leave the private campground where I'm staying, but several people who needed to be here for the WFR recert class this morning were 3 hours late while they waited for the roads to open...including our instructor!
Despite having good tents, most of us had some leakage. Fortunately for me, just a small puddle at the foot of the tent, which didn't get my sleeping bag wet, or me.

Looks like as much as another foot of snow for the Peaks's highest elevations from tonight to Tuesday. It will melt! I keep telling myself that. It will, it just might be April or May when it does. It still could in late October or November, I guess.
So much for Doyle this year.

Flagstaff currently ranks as the 9th wettest October. It will only take 1.2" to move up to the 2nd wettest, which seems likely to happen, perhaps as soon as tomorrow.
Getting to the #1 wettest October will take a whopping 6.1" more rain at FLG. If it's gonna happen, this might be the year, but damn, that's a lot of October rain!

Roughly five inches for the month and twenty five inches for the year. Whatever the outdoor excursions take me the next couple of days looks like more rain and possible snow.

@Nighthiker
You had 5 inches so far in Payson? I still don't see how there can be that much and no rise in Roosevelt. Perhaps the winter snow and rain will bring more storage this year.

This reminds me that there hasn't been a really good springtime wildflower display in years. Since autumn rain is a factor in this, we have some hope!
