"Official" Mileage - Flagstaff Sections
To "officially" complete the Arizona Trail, must one hike both passages 32 and 33? When I add up the mileage using one or the other, it doesn't get to the 800 miles. Just want to be sure I complete all that are required to say I FINISHED!!

I would think that the answer to your question is YES.

Re: "Official" Mileage - Flagstaff Sections
I'm not so sure one has to hike both Flagstaff routes to "complete" the AZT. I recommend the equestrian route around the east side.
Note that portions of the AZT north of town are rerouted now due to helicopter logging on Mt Eldon. They hope to be done and have the trail open in mid-April, but as you can imagine, things may not go exactly as planned

@Sredfield
I have completed the east side (32), but not 33, the resupply route. I figured that thru hikers do one or the other, so wasn't sure if both were the norm for "completion".

And don't forget about the Pusch Ridge Wilderness Bypass, Passage 11b as listed on the AZT website. If ya gotta do both Flagstaff passages, ya gotta do both Catalina passages.

Re: "Official" Mileage - Flagstaff Sections
No, you don't have to hike both. On this FORUM, there is a list of who is reporting their progress. When you do a section, it maps it for you and keeps your list, as long as you fill out a trip report and post it. You will show up at 100% as long as you do the continuous trail from border to border. You do not have to do the bypasses to be included at 100%.

Re: "Official" Mileage - Flagstaff Sections
Well, now, let me amend that! I don't know about the Flagstaff alternate. It is listed in both the triplog and on the finishers' list. HMM. The Pusch Wilderness bypass is not, so that is not part of the 100% completed. BUT - Flagstaff bypass just may be.

And go back and hike any reroutes that have occurred since you started, and hike any more that happen after you finish so you can stay current. And be sure to hike in the center of the trail because, you know, the inside and outside of the curves are different lengths, and be sure to start the next section at exactly the same spot at the trailhead that you completed the previous section (ala Kathy and Karl).

Yup... Also, the scenery is different depending on which direction you hike it, so you must hike it both ways as well.

Re: "Official" Mileage - Flagstaff Sections
The Baseball Hall of Fame uses an "*" to designate a questionable record (see Barry Bond's home run record). Maybe HAZ should adopt a similar convention, e.g. AZT*. Just a thought.
