Passages 1, 2 and 3 Huachuca through Canelo Hills West

Post by SilverPIC »

My son and I are looking for a good wilderness backpacking trip. We are planning to go on his spring break March 29 through April 4th give or take a day. 4 nights, 5 days...
We had originally planned Zion but the snow load is too great that time of year so we thought we would try something more southerly.
I was hoping that this group could advise if the trip in the subject line is a good one. Or are there other better suggestions.
Flying from Indy so transportation is a consideration. Which makes me concerned about this particular trip logistics.
Many thanks in advance for any advice and assistance the group can provide.
Barry

Sounds to moi that you're talking about sections 16 & 17 of the AZT. If those sections don't fill up your 4 night, 5 day criteria, then there's enough spectacular country adjacent to those two sections of the AZT to keep all but the most jaded hiker happy for a lifetime, e.g. Kilns of Cochran, Box Canyon, Martinez Canyon, White Canyon, et al..

@SAMBA Thank you, that looks really amazing.
Does anyone know an outfitter that can transport us to the trailhead or what are my options? I can rent a car in Phoenix (or Tucson) but We’ll need to pick up fuel for the stoves and need a ride back from the endpoint to the car.

Check the AZT Trail Angels page. I used an angel a few months back for a shuttle, he was heavenly.

@toddak HA! I’ll do that.
I’ll start a new thread too with the new passages.
Thanks!
