Summer has finally arrived in NJ, just in time for that air conditioning to fail at work.

More than half the days in June were at or below normal, and 27 out of 30 were no more than 5 degrees above normal. That's a pleasant June in my book.

This data is from the official Phoenix weather station. YMMV at other locations in the state, but I believe many of them were similarly pleasant.

While I agree June was quite pleasant, I'm either missing something or I must question your math...

More than half the days in June were at or below normal, which in my book means at least 16 days were at or below normal.
However, if that were true, how is it possible for 27 days to be no more than 5 degrees above normal?
Hmmm: 16 + 27 = 43 :doh:

Oh wait... after reading your first sentence possibly a dozen times, the only thing I can think of is:
Did you mean the LOW temperature for more than half of the days were at/below normal while at the same time the HIGH temperature for 27 days were no more than 5 degrees above normal? :?

@CannondaleKid
Because it's possible for a day to have a temperature that is at or below normal, and subsequently ALSO be no more than 5 degrees above normal.

Not only did June have at least 43 days, most of them were 40-50 hours long.

Despite an odd theory posted elsewhere, the monsoon is apparently unaffected by HAZ forum rants.

I for one, am sick of this weather, or lack thereof.

Clearly, what we do here is important and matters. The rain will now come. Deluge expected.

Incidentally, Flagstaff's current driest Monsoon season on record (1.02") is half the driest season to September 30. Thankfully, the flood gates will now open. Expect a record second half of the season for rain, Flagstaff.

Maybe off topic, but your old thumbnail photo had a certain appeal. You were shaking your fist for all of us! Not that there's anything wrong with your new one. :) We at LosDosSloFolks need to change ours for obvious reasons. The deranged Easter bunny in the middle has been mistaken for a couple of different things...OK, back to weather.

I wonder if any of Arizona's forests and other public lands will have to enact autumn fire restrictions. I don't recall that ever happening before. But I wouldn't rule it out. Tonto still hasn't been able to rescind their Stage 1 restrictions (in place since June 15), which are scheduled to expire on August 30, but I foresee the possibility that the next two weeks won't provide enough moisture where that will be extended, possibly through the end of the year.

@LosDosSloFolks
I liked the old one, but I think the point of me shaking my fist in anger ( meant to be ironic) at the almost non-existent smoke column after other members had complained quite a bit about this fire ruining plans near Strawberry, was lost on folks. Also, I just got tired of it.

@ Toddy, This year reminds me of 2009 and 2017. 2009 was very dry after out of season late May and early June rains, and 2017 had a decent July for rain, but the flow ceased, almost all storms vanished in Arizona, and the state dried out for nearly a year until the next summer.

Do you recall anything in those years? I don't. Not meant to be a loaded response, I really just don't remember.

The big variable after middle September, is our tendency to be a lot cooler, and cold in areas that might be hot right now, so restrictions are not always necessary if fuel moisture is not extremely low.

https://azdailysun.com/news/historicall ... f0346.html

Fuels are still kinda moist per that article.

An NPR interview today mentioned some of the causes for our dismal summer rains, including troughs to the west. Now unless those cease, tropical storms might be kept at bay, though the interview also suggested they would work together to bring a lot of rain. Time will tell, but as last year showed us, we could have a wet fall or wet late summer.

The current forecast is dry, dry, dry, pretty much to Labor Day, from what I am seeing.

I'd like to report 1.23 inches of rain at my house in South Phoenix, last night. Since the thread was unlocked, the flood gates have opened. I'd like to report it, that doesn't mean it really happened.

Does sitting inside reading about mindless weather chit chat when you want to be out backpacking with someone whom is nameless right now cause she can't find a partner quality for replying to this topic?
