Car Camping Along the road to Tuweep Campground Toroweap.

Post by louie »

Wondering what the car camping situation is like along the road specifically car camping by the Bar 10 Ranch area. Trying to figure out if there is dispersed camping or does the road follow a lot of private land.

Thank you!

@louie
Bar 10 is in Whitmore wash, a canyon west of Toroweap. It probably takes a couple of hours to drive from one to the other.
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

@chumley I’m looking at hiking Mt. Emma and the group I’m hiking with are staying at Bar 10 and hitting the trail right from there. I want to be able to find a car camping spot close by so I don’t have to pay for a room. I can’t find much info on hiking Mt. Emma other then there is no trail so prepare to bushwhack. Thank you for the info:-)

@louie
Google Earth or HAZ's own satellite view are great ways to scan an area for car camp spots.

I've never been down Whitmore to Bar 10. But there is a lot of BLM land which allows dispersed camping. Along Road 5 that runs east-west between Mt. Logan and Mt. Trumbull, there were numerous dispersed campsites in shaded pine forest. Down toward Whitmore is a little lower in elevation so the shade may be lacking, but I think you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a place to set up camp.

Bring the AZ Strip BLM map. It helps a lot! (Especially if you use Avenza on your phone ... it's a free map!)

And since Mt. Emma isn't on HAZ, feel free to share some beta with the rest of us when you get back, instead always being a one-way information mooch. :oops: :doh: :M2C:
