What's your jam?
What do you like to listen to when out hiking? Saw an ad for the noxgear 39g advertised as, "The world's lightest, loudest, longest-lasting wearable Bluetooth speaker." Currently offered for only $79.95.

Re: What's your jam?
I read that those sandisk mp3 players were typically bundled with a flip phone purchase. It's impressive that they still work!
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

Re: What's your jam?
The responses to my OP have really taken me pleasantly by surprise. I more or less was expecting a rant on, "The world's lightest, loudest, longest-lasting wearable Bluetooth speaker" and the follies of subjecting us to your pumpkin music. Cool.
I will admit I don't listen to music hiking. While thru-hiking the PCT, I never listened to music or podcasts while on trail. Recently, I'll listen to podcasts on day hikes or shorter. Now I'll go back to streaming KEXP.

You rang?
I for one find the sound of music grating to my ears and my psychy. Instruments, even when used properly, create a horrible sound! If you ask me,.....

Re: What's your jam?
Apropos of this thread: I just got back from my morning "hill loop", an informal neighborhood SoMo trail I've walked thousands(?) of times. First time ever I heard loud music playing from a group of 3 on the other side of the loop. I felt a little annoyed.
It occurred to me this must be common on the more crowded urban trails. I wondered what you urban hikers do? a. Smile b. Scowl c. Dance d. Say "Really? How 'bout headphones?" e. Say "You must be new to this trail - good job getting outside into the fresh air." f. other.

@Hansenaz
9/10 I say nothing because my highly scientific observations of those who choose to utilize their phone's speaker in a public setting frequently resemble the type of mouth breather that would easily escalate to the nasty type of altercation.
This is, in part, why I never hike camelback despite the fact that it encompasses the lion's share of the view of my bedroom window.

it's also all too prevalent on "trendy" trails like Flatiron and Humphreys.Hansenaz wrote:It occurred to me this must be common on the more crowded urban trails.

Re: What's your jam?
Listen to music when exercise hiking is fine. But not when in the wild or hiking with a group not such a good idea.
Hear is my story:
I was leading a group backpack several years ago, I was very clear that if you come to any intersection to stop and wait on me. A young lady in the group had her head phones in and was not paying attention. Of course she missed the turn. We had to bypass that very important turn to find her. By this time it was late and we could not double back. Luckley it was a loop hike. She never heard the yelling or the whistle over the music.

a) Hey, my mom/dad/parents love that song.
b) Hey, just an FYI... The ranger is up ahead. You might get a ticket for playing loud music on the trail.
c) You might want to turn down your music I just saw a rattlesnake coiled up on the trail.

Ok I've decided to change my answer to this question anyway.
I utilize part of my 10,000 roll TP supply to plug my ears in case anyone blasts their music.
While also breathing exclusively through my mouth.
