Goldfield Fire

Post by DixieFlyer »

I noticed on the Tonto National Forest facebook page that the Goldfield Fire is burning near Highway 87 and Bush Highway. Currently Highway 87 NB is down to one lane, and Bush Highway is closed from 87 to Saguaro Lake. The fire is moving NE, so there might not be too much left to burn after the Bush Fire. This was one caused by a car fire. What is up with all of the car fires??

Trying to get home to Payson so rerouted to Ellworth/Usery Pass but first a pizza at papa Kelley's. Slurry bombers flying overhead.

While at Usery Pass Road watched the slurry planes fly over and was able to check the Beeline Highway and after awhile i noted traffic was going North and South Bound however Bush Highway was closed so I headed West to Gilbert Road and to 87 and home. I noted the fire was burning up the Northwest side of Stewart Mountain and it appeared to have rounded the mountain on the North end, possible to Bush Highway itself.

Why the hell not. The Bush Fire didn't get all of it, so someone else may as well finish it off. The Beeline has gone from a nice drive into a really bad one, but it can always get worse and that's being proven right now.

Maybe we should rename it from Beeline Road to Fireline Raceway. :scared:
It can live up to it's new name in no time! : rambo :

Dang these fires have almost done as much ecological damage to the area as the "wild" horses now.

I will be contacting ADOT and floating the idea to ask for signage improvements instructing drivers **not** to park over dry grasses.

If they can insert Star Wars references into the "Don't drink n drive" signs on the freeway then they can make this happen.

I noticed many new pink patches in that area on my beeline drive as well as one of the nearby peaks is quite pink from the retardant.

They are not showing it on the Inciweb and from the looks yesterday morning, it must be contained or mostly out. All the smoke was further down the Beeline towards Payson and there was no "glow" anywhere. Both NB lanes are open as of yesterday with no signage or anything that would give clues that there was a fire at all.

They suppressed it pretty quickly because there were quite a few structures threatened. There are homes with visible retardant lines right up to the front door. Imagine if they had put similar resources early on the Bush Fire. #buildmorehomestosavetheforest

Final Update: 100% contained at 1,970 acres.
Firefighters will patrol and monitor the burned area over the next several days and will be available to respond to any new fires in the area. There are currently 3 engines assigned.
Highway 87 and Bush Highway are both open. Firefighters and equipment will be working in the area for the next several days. Please watch out and slow down for them as you drive through the fire area.
Saguaro Lake Marina, Saguaro Del Norte and the recreation sites along the Lower Salt River are open. Butcher Jones remains closed as part of the Bush Post-Fire Flooding Public Safety Closure Order.

I heard from a "reliable source" that the fire was started by one of the home owners in the area. He/she got a $200 fine and the fire cost $3.3 million to date.

Well, that sounds like a real future deterrent to keep the wildfires to a minimum. :o
