A cloud! A cloud! Oh, my!

It rained at my house the other day. It was from a clear blue sky, hot and dry, and it rained! What you ask?

It rained trash! Old Styrofoam Circle K cups, plastic bags, a few aluminum cans, and maybe even an old condom, who knows. A dust devil must have picked up the trash as it spun through an empty lot, and it was dropping out as it as it ran on.

Ah, a refreshing summer of 2020 rain.

I got rained on today on the Rim. I got rained on a LOT today on the Rim. I got hailed on today on the Rim. Clouds started at 10 am and rain started by 12:30 with lightning. I really needed it to hold off another hour, but no. Bad place to be. I couldn't escape the rain the rest of the day until I finally headed down towards Payson.

@chumley Chevelon at Larson, Black Canyon Lake, Willow Springs Lake and it followed me even for about a mile driving down from the rim. The Hail was at the turnoff for Black Canyon Lake. I decided not to go all the way to the lake because things just weren't letting up. Got to the Dam on Willow Springs and had to turn around there too. I just wasn't going to get a 2nd Hike in.

@outdoor_lover So Asnf. Likely no effect on the Coconino restrictions planned.

@chumley
Yeah, Coconino had some pretty clear skies unless you were on the Strawberry side and I'm not sure they even got any there. An area to the NW of the Mazzies got a nice downpour that lasted for a bit, I drove up a little ways on Barnhardt for a Sunset. Looked like ASNF was still getting pounded at Sunset too.

We got all excited around here yesterday. A large, anvil shaped cloud started building up over Mt. Lemmon and for a brief moment it smelled like rain. But alas, our hopes were dashed and the cloud moved north to Oracle and broke up. Though did get to watch a video of the rain that a friend who lives in Summerhaven posted.

It is so dry that after 3 hours of hiking yesterday that I noticed that I didn't have a single droplet of sweat on my forehead or on my sunglasses.

@SpiderLegs
I had the opposite apparently. I was soaking wet from descending a hill and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Some of that was from effort, but it was apparent early on that the area had gotten some rain probably the day before. More Humid than Phoenix for sure!

Is it late June? It was 117 degrees today, and it's supposed to be near 115 for just about the next seven days with the coolest day being tomorrow at 112. It's June right?

Even going to the Santa Rita's yesterday brought no relief. Hot and humid all the way to the summit of Mt. Hopkins. Misted/sprinkled on us for about three minutes on the way down, which didn't cool us off but instead made it even muggier. Felt like midwest summer weather until the clouds burned off just as I got back to the car. Then the inferno started and it was 95 degrees at 5200 feet elevation before lunch time. Hit the freeway and watched the temps spike, it was 112 going through downtown Tucson at noon.

Big dark cell approaching, sky is that blue black with rising thunderheads on the periphery. Strong gusts, is cooler but no rain smell. Hope it does something.

I detect the sweet smell of smoke in the air, and unless there is a small minor incident not picked up on the MODIS maps, or whatever satellites they use to produce the active fire maps, the position of 2 centers of high pressure as well as a surface low to the SE and what is visible in the visible satellite images suggests this smoke is not from the Ranch 2 in SoCal, but instead is coming to us from Colorado. Where, oh where, are the lamentations for the multiple fires in the northern third of Colorado? Eh, who cares. It isn't of dispensary origin, but instead is from either mid-elevation Rocky Mountain chaparral or scrub, and upper elevation lodgepole/Doug-Fir, and possibly some Spruce-Fir, so basically, whatever.

Still, we may be in for a week of hazy, smokey skies with temperatures hovering between 113 and 115! What strange hell, is this? At least the sunsets will be brilliant, if the children aren't.

It was 115 degrees again today!

In fact, with the exception of Saturday when it was a cool 114 degrees, it has been 115 or higher (117 last Friday) since Thursday the 13th, last week.

Assuming it doesn’t drop below 90 before midnight today will also mark the 25th day this year that the low temperature at the airport was 90 or above. The previous record for a summer was 15 days. Do you think we can get to 30?

What is going on with all the fires. Going up the Beeline just before Sunrise and the only mountain you could see was Four Peaks. The whole valley and all the way to 188 was smoky. As I was going by Bush Highway, there was another fire, south of the Beeline and East of Bush Highway. Looked to be a line of flames about 1/8 mile long. Then coming home tonight, signs say 188 to Globe is closed and was wondering what now? You guys answered that one. Another fire. Sheesh! And Coconino NF got some Rain yesterday, but kinda struck out today although it darkened nicely and grumbled loudly.
