Strange light near Sycamore Creek/Highway 87

Post by Sredfield »

Something tells me this has been discussed before but I don't find it.

At least twice now when coming south on the Beeline at night, just south of the second Sycamore Creek crossing at about 33.78805 -111.498262, I've seen bright white and blue lights on top of the butte there. They don't last long. Does anyone know what this is?

Thanks
Shawn

I saw them the other night too. I'm not sure what they would be marking, if I recall, it's not a high point there.

@Sredfield
[ Bush Fire ]
My only thought is some kind of temporary weather station/rain gauge to help give quick notice of potential downstream flooding. If an instrument like that, I'm not sure why it would need lights or what their purpose would be as I'm sure it would have a radio or satellite transmitter to a relay station somewhere rather than flashing data via morse code! :)

Hmmm, I just may have to pay a return visit to find out... the summit of that peak was bare when I last visited it back in April 2013:

light is nearest mile post 212 from my drive down Friday night after my detour to Roosevelt Lake to checkout the huge smoke plume and pyrocumulus cloud.

from what I could tell it was from the new Hidden fire which was only listed at 4,500 acres but was belching tons of smoke and has hwy 188 area on high alert. < Hwy 188 area in the a.m. was blanketed in smoke on my drive up >

good news is Roosevelt Lake is still nearly 90 percent full.

The bad news is that the USFS is not taking the water from Lake Roosevelt by allowing the firefighting aircraft the water they need to fight all these fires! :scared: :scared: :scared: ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) :pout: :pout: :pout: :M2C: :M2C: :M2C:

THey looked pretty bright to be solar, but who knows. I've only seen them when heading south.

I believe that you've got this correct.

Last night while paddling across the lake under a moonlit sky, I noticed a light on an adjacent hill. At first I assumed somebody was camping as it seemed to be similar to a headlamp, but then I realized that every time I looked toward it the color had changed. With this Beeline mystery light in mind, I made my way over to the shore and began my night hike up the hill to seek out the source of the light.

Surprise!!

And while that light could only be seen from about a mile away, there are others that are much brighter. I'd bet that if you venture up the hill on the Beeline, you will find that somebody has littered something brighter like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081ZRGKT2?tag=hikearizona

@friendofThundergod
Oh I went one step further! I lit a nice fire and burned the whole hillside so it'll be hundreds of years before there's another saguaro there for somebody to do it again!
