Critical Theory, Critical Race Theory?
Critical Race Theory, Critical Theory in general, and politics in general related to these thing: do people have interest and capacity to discuss these subjects in a honest fashion? With the election, this may be a difficult topic.
Can it happen without resorting to name calling and that sort of behavior?
What do people know or understand about these subjects?

Re: Critical Theory, Critical Race Theory?
There are numerous resources on these subjects with solid research and good reading. If it interests you, I think you'll find more success in a forum that more often focuses on this kind of subject than one that often centers around hiking-related topics.Jim_H wrote: ↑Oct 18 2020 9:11 am Critical Race Theory, Critical Theory in general, and politics in general related to these thing: do people have interest and capacity to discuss these subjects in a honest fashion? Yes.
With the election, this may be difficult topic. Neither the theory, nor the study of it, is affected by an election.
Can it happen without resorting to name calling and that sort of behavior? Yes.
What do people know or understand about these subjects? Some people know more than others.

Yes, but there is an obvious reason I AM posting here asking if people are interested in discussing it.

Re: Critical Theory, Critical Race Theory?
I've learned my lesson a few presidential election cycles ago, engaging in politics online on any forum or social media outlet is like wrestling with a pig. Both sides end up covered in mud & excrement. But engaging over a pint or two or while hiking is pretty fun for me. The majority of my hiking & trail running friends do not share my opinions, but having a respectful chat about our differences while out in the woods helps to build bridges. Too much divisiveness in the world right now, if going for a hike with someone helps to learn the fine art of agreeing to disagree I'm all for it.

I miss 2010 and before when people could discuss things online in an intelligent manner.

@Jim_H Please don’t encourage me to dig up examples of those intelligent discussions you participated in that you selectively miss. It won’t end well.

Re: Critical Theory, Critical Race Theory?
Did someone really have to bring this up? There is more than enough of this on other sites where it is discussed endlessly. Of course my solution would be for me just to go elsewhere. I thought, though, that this is a site about hiking.

Yes I did. I dared to commit the sin here of asking if people are interested in it. I do not belong to other sites, so I am not seeing what you are, it seems.
Ignoring the thread or a simple, "no", is a perfectly valid response.
Edited: I deeply and strongly oppose CRT.

If this forum is supposed to be hiking oriented, then how come the Redflex thread has a life of it's own?

@Alston_Neal
There is a "Political" forum on here, so topics such as "critical race theory" and "redflex" would seem to be fair game.

The most beautiful thing about internet forums is that all of the critical thinking, constructive criticism, and political tolerance is displayed by others.

Re: Critical Theory, Critical Race Theory?
Maybe I should have asked how concerned people are about it, or if people are even aware of it. I certainly wasn't until June. I would not have understood what people were talking about if someone had mentioned it a week prior to me learning about it. Just like the nonsense over limitless genders, or the insanity regarding trans this and that, or much of the lunacy and man hatred being spewed from critical theory infused 4th wave feminism, CRT isn't exactly something where I see a lot of debate taking place. It's more of a bash someone over the head and if they objects call them racist, sexist, transphobic, or whatever the woke do.
No, perhaps with Sid's angry response there is a great awareness of it and people are sick of it. I really don't know what people do know about. It doesn't seem to come up and since I'm fairly recent to learning about it I thought there might be some interest.

Re: Critical Theory, Critical Race Theory?
I had to read up on it, and believe me I read very little as it just did not interest me. I prefer studying history in all it's inaccuracies and follies, and what is known about man's progression in time. Basic takeaway for me, culture formed, then societal norms, governments in various forms. There are the power hungry, vain, control freaks down to the down trodden, weak, fearful humans. Sometimes there is migration between the two rich become poor and poor become powerful and rich. Neither situation seems to uniformly bring the elusive "happiness", which supposedly would bestow a benevolent personality. Cruel individuals/groups exercise basic control to punishment and death on those they can to achieve their objective. Sometimes those groups suffer the same fate when revolts develop in the oppressed population. Symbiotic relationships in the society/ government is most desired and can continue for some time till some sort of tipping point happens. Then the feces hits the fan. Race seems to play a role again for me only such that it is an excuse to use the "that person is different and therefore inferior", not that it is true, to be a propaganda point manipulation depending on the perpetrator's agenda.

Re: Critical Theory, Critical Race Theory?
CRT, like all of the different sub areas of Critical Theory ( which is not critical thinking) is post modern infused Marxism, deliberately created from the outset to foster unhappiness in the affected group and lead to revolution. It doesn't come from an honest place, because CT was and is about Communism, or leading to radical social change and revolution.
If there is one take away from CRT, it is that all whites are inherently evil, because in CRT whites belong to the "dominant group". It's insanity. It also seems like most people who are retired, close to retirement, or do not watch conservative news or media are blissfully unaware of things like this. I recently voted for the candidate who publicly came out against CT and CRT. Most are still voting emotionally and based on events and knowledge from 1990, or up to 2010, or so. When concepts like "white girl tears" become a serious area of discussion in a book like White Fragility, you know that CT is a cult, and not normal.

Maybe this forum topic should have been, “I would like to share my opinions on CRT to anyone interested in listening.”
