The basil in my yard is covered in fine ice crystals! It does get cold here! The summer growing season is over.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
18"-24" of snow are expected in NJ tonight and tomorrow, and winds will get up to 60 mph on the back side of the storm.. Only about 6" so far.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Or it could move 10 miles north and be mostly rain! Gotta love those storm tracks. For as bad as forecasts can be in Arizona sometimes, it amazes me how good the models have become at nailing those northeast tracks as accurately as they do. And to think it's largely based on the change of a few millibars in high pressure over Hudson Bay, a thousand miles north!
Enjoy shoveling tomorrow

Tell me about it. Spent four long and excruciating years outside of Harrisburg PA. Worst part of the east coast was that rain/snow/sleet/slush mix. Give me a foot of snow over that any day.chumley wrote:Or it could move 10 miles north and be mostly rain!

@azlaurie
You didn't get the 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch that fell around my house, last week? It did appear to be more of a west valley and south central Phoenix storm. Got the Rainbow Valley and Estrellas, too, which was what I wanted. I know places like the Eagletails were bone dry, and areas north of and in Tucson, just a tenth, at best.

@Jim_H
We only got .41" last week, and that was only during the wee hours so I didn't get to enjoy any raindrops keep fallin' on my head.

I tallied .78" here in the third of the old Tri-Cities city. Pleasantly more than I was expecting.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
The National Weather Service has a new website for radar that catches up with what private companies were doing in 2005.
It might be the result of the Russians hacking every government server, or maybe it was something that NOAA did on purpose?
Either way, it's a lot more functional than anything else you can find after a weather.gov slash. (Which, of course isn't saying much. It's still ranked as the 47th best option for online radar.)

I preferred the old radar website. It worked perfectly fine. This new one is just annoying.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
The last time that a record was set for a daily low temperature at PHX the President was George W. Bush. The number of days a record was set for daily high temperature in that time?
47,282
*Possible exaggeration on the record highs

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
After over a foot of snow last week, we're expecting 2-4" of rain on Christmas, with wind gusting at 65-70 mph. I'll be happy as long as it's not snow. That much moisture falling as snow would take days for me to clear.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
The power company called to say they're expecting outages and they had canceled all their workers vacation time to keep them all local and on call. Sounds like a lame Christmas for the utility workers, and the people at home with no electricity.big_load wrote:wind gusting at 65-70 mph
