Spring flow

Post by thirstylizard »

What is the best way to measure water output from a spring? Today, I filled a gallon container in 37 seconds.

Also how does the “drop” meter correspond with measurements in the HAZ hike log? Just trying to understand the best way to describe.

Thanks.

Wild guess.

I think if you have a gallon receptacle the formula is as follows. The number of seconds to fill the receptacle divided by 60 equals X. Then 1 divided by X equals Gallons per Minute (GPM).

Thank you.

I was obviously heading into seventh grade, science project level math calculations with cfs etc. when HAZience is a much better place to be... ](*,)

So, at 1.6 gallons per minute (gpm), this spring was in the gallon plus per minute selection on a triplog report.

I happened to be filling a gallon jug at this spring and yet experience tells me I am more likely to fill a 2-3 liter standard water container when hiking so math/science in play for future calculations.

If only seventh grade math class took place outdoors...
