Arizona Grand Slam Of Hikes

Post by SpiderLegs »

This popped into my head the other day while I was out walking the dog and I mentally began to compile a list. When I lived in Idaho a decade ago, I was active in their version of HAZ for a couple of years. That group had what they called the "Grand Slam" of lower elevation springtime hikes that were free of snow. Each hike was harder than the previous hike and if you did all four hikes you were pretty much good to go fitness wise for summer peak bagging season.

If you had to put together a list of 4-5 hikes that if done within 4-8 weeks time to prep for a much more adventurous trip what would they be? Pick a set for Phoenix and pick a set for Tucson.

@SpiderLegs
In Tucson, a good training hike for "summer peak bagging season" is Mount Wrightson...closer to Phoenix, I think that Mount Ord fits the bill
Civilization is a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there

@DixieFlyer - I had a set of 4-5 hikes in each city in mind, waiting to see what others came up with. But I would agree on both of your choices and they made my personal list in each locale.
