2021 Fire Season
https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/7438/
Commence your freakout. Might burn the mountain, might not.
I saw the large smoke plume yesterday around 5 PM in a Satellite image but figured it was so large that it must have been a cloud shield. Nope.

Re: 2021 Fire Season
It's just a rumor within the FS at this point, not confirmed but the belief is the military was doing maneuvers in the area and a flare started it. Nothing extravagant, but still extremely reckless if true.

Re: 2021 Fire Season
Latest map looks like an edge has crossed Hwy 77, in the close up the edge of the quieter Mescal Fire is not that far away.

@RedRoxx44
It's definitely crossed 77 in a couple spots. Looks like there could be some back burning going on at 77 to hold that line.
On a separate note, containment has decreased since yesterday.

Re: 2021 Fire Season
This is infuriating. Looks like they could've just backburned from Sulfide Del Rey / Russell Gulch west, sacrificed Madera Peak (which burned anyways), and saved the rest of the mountain. But no...

Gotta love that fire progression map on Inciweb. Shows their total screw up in living color.

Re: 2021 Fire Season
So much for the Telegraph and Mescal fires not merging. It's essentially one fire now although I don't think Mescal is doing much now based off of the satellite detections.

How depressing. The coverage map of the Pinnacle Fire on inciweb makes it look like all of Cottonwood Mountain is affected. All those lovely pines...

Re: 2021 Fire Season
So, Telegraph at roughly 148K acres now; it was about 88K when it "got away" from them. That's roughly 60K on the FS watch and it's not done yet. Mescal has pretty much mopped up; had a new start "gravel fire" near Soda Canyon on the Res but I think that's been taken care of. Glad the Reindeer ranch at Dripping Springs closed down years ago. When we went by there the pen had probably 60 reindeer in it. Try loading up and moving all that ahead of this fire.

Re: 2021 Fire Season
Geez, now Ray Mine, Hayden, Kearny, Riverside and even Winkelman are in Ready status. Some nice stuff in the Dripping Springs mountains. Hope some of it survives.
Community of Aravaipa now in Ready status from Pinnacle but not sure with map if old town Aravaipa is in the path, do hope they protect that if needed. Some seldom seen history in the old buildings there.

Re: 2021 Fire Season
Even though the back burn around Pinal and Signal started several days before the fire hit the area, on the inciweb Telegraph evening update for 6/16; some communications were damaged. Seems like these Type I incident teams do far more damage than the fire would. I really don't think that I'd welcome them showing up in my town. I have insurance and can rebuild or move on. I don't think the wildlife has that option...

Re: 2021 Fire Season
A fire reported on Ike's Backbone overnight has spread to over 150 acres. The entire Fossil Creek area is now closed.
Wildfire start 12 miles west of Strawberry
CAMP VERDE Ariz., June 17, 2021 — A fire was reported last night about 11:30 p.m. in an area 12 miles west of Strawberry near the old Child’s powerplant off a landscape feature named Ike’s Backbone.
The Backbone Fire is estimated to be approximately 150 acres, burning in rough country just above where Fossil Creek and the Verde River converge. Campers near the Child’s powerplant were evacuated last night.
One engine is currently on scene and more resources are in route, including aviation assets. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
The Fossil Creek recreation area will be closed due to wildfire danger, which includes Waterfall Trail, Irving/Flume, Tonto Bench, Fossil Creek Bridge, Homestead, Sally May, Purple Mountain, and Mazatzal.
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

Re: 2021 Fire Season
Some fire almost in back yard. Heavy Fire started near Helvetia Mine and has moved into Coronado forest. I thought things looked hazy this morning on my early morning before the fireball from hell walk.

Re: 2021 Fire Season
Backbone is up to 1200 acres. Their plan is to try to keep it west of Fossil Creek so it doesn't threaten Pine/Strawberry. If the powerlines don't create a break, how far north it goes is anybody's guess.

Re: 2021 Fire Season
Interesting statement on Inciweb which leads me to believe the CYA has begun. I've harassed a few media outlets on follow up stories for Telegraph; idly wondering if that input is coming from multiple sources.
