Lost a tree, a bunch of limbs, cactus and shrubs in Scottsdale Thursday night. Also sections of fence and our 4 year old roof leaked into the living room. If this hadn't been Arizona, I would have thought Tornado for 45 minutes. Have never seen that severe of a wind ever in AZ. And I've been through Microbursts before. Thankfully our 50 ft Pine Tree held, where some others around this area didn't. They say we got 2 1/2 inches of rain in an hour.

I'm glad it wasn't any worse. When the big winds come, the damage seems like a matter of luck.

Leaving for the Winds in about 1 hour. Enough rain that I think I'll turn off my drip system for the time I am gone. Wouldn't have said that was a chance a month ago.

This month is getting to be somewhat historic! :o

Top 3 wettest months of record at my house (since June 1980):
1 July 2017 7.47
2 July 1990 7.38
3 July 2021 6.78 (still raining and with about a week to go for the record)

This is for any month of the year, just so happens the top 3 are in July.

@LosDosSloFolks
That is an impressive rain total. I have 3.1 inches in my rain gauge since Thursday night, which isn't too shabby.

It's pretty safe to say this incredible rain event is over, down Tucson way anyhow. Here are my final tallies: day 1.26, month 6.80, year 8.53. :)

I don't have a photographic memory of weather events over the years, but I can't recall even a winter storm that provided such widespread precipitation across the entire state over such a long duration. From the White Mtns to Flag, even Kingman, down through the valley, Tucson, southeast Arizona, and Yuma! Rain totals are impressive in many areas. But for the deserts, a few days of temps that have been windows-open-at-night-pleasant is something I've really enjoyed.

The Phoenix Rainfall Index (which does a better job of covering valley-wide monsoon rains vs. only what falls at the official gauge at the airport) is now 2.66", making it the wettest PRI July in 30 years https://www.weather.gov/psr/PRI. It is also the wettest single month since Oct 2018. Even at the official PHX gauge, it's the wettest July since 2013.

Fun with numbers: 1" of rain falling across all of AZ equals about 2 trillion gallons

Three consecutive days of low 80º official high temps in Phoenix. Probably never see that again. I don't think that's ever occurred in Phoenix in July before?

The National Weather Service - Phoenix wrote:The high in Phoenix was 81°F today. This follows highs of 83°F the past two days. For the first time in recorded history (since 1896), Phoenix has had three consecutive days in July with highs in the low 80s
I'm not sure what the definition of "low 80s" is. There are a couple of folks on here who will claim age 37 is still in the low 30s, so who knows?

I came up with 1.98 trillion gallons, and I'd say that is "about 2 trillion gallons"

There are 113,998 square miles in AZ
There are approximately 4.014 billion cu inches in a square mile
There are 231 cubic inches in a gallon

Therefore, it would take 1.98 trillion gallons of rain to cover all of AZ with one inch of rain (113,998 * 4.014 billion / 231)

How many acre-feet is that?
If it all got collected in Lake Mead, how many feet would the lake level rise?
