FS 449 Tule TH & 449A Campaign (Upper Horrell) TH

Post by Fritzski »

State Route 88 is now SR188. The mile markers have also been changed and the turnoff on FS449 is now between 235 & 236.

High clearance MAY be possible under optimum conditions, but not recommended.

Drive time from Gilbert was a full two hours.

449/449A to Campaign

Post by 00blackout »

Was in the area yesterday and I wanted to check out how the road held up after all of the rain/floods. The answer is not so well. 449 is good as always, once you turn off on 449A (past the ranch) the road disappears in what is now a flooded area full of debris and sand. I navigated down the wash around a couple of obstacles. Once you get to the climb out of the wash it still exists just really eroded in some spots. A quarter of a mile from the TH it turns back into a feces show, washed out from what is left of Campaign Creek. There were no fresh tire tracks even at the TH and going into the Reavis School, doesn't look like Peter's been around for a bit. I've driven this road more times then I can count but I still got turned around once or twice yesterday from all of the zig zagging. Makes me nervous on what the condition of the trails are out there.

On a side note, just like everywhere else, so much green out there, but surprisingly what was left of the road was not overgrown at all.

Hiking is just walking where it’s okay to pee. :y:
