Can anyone confirm the forest road number that takes you to the top of Shake Tree canyon ?? Yes, I've heard it's rough. I'm thinking it's either 415 or 46, can anyone confirm??
Thanks
Garth

Re: Shake Tree Canyon 4x4 RD location
I can't confirm there are signs posted anywhere along the route, but if you mean the bottom of STC (the top is in the wilderness and has no road access) then 415 takes you onto Shake Ridge but leaves more uphill hiking to get to the wilderness boundary (and may not be accessible due to the ranch where it connects to the beeline), while 1438 to 1438B will take you right to the boundary close to Shake Ridge Tank.
Somebody with TRAL might be able to give you current road conditions.

I think you are referring to 1438 to 1438B which gets you onto the ridge.
The FR 415 extension of 1438 seems to be designated for closure under the proposed motor vehicle use plan but can always still be hiked as an exit route if you see a closure sign.
Barnhardt rd is 419, which involves hiking up Y-bar.

Looks like a modified option C was chosen and both are marked as a "motorized trail". Until the map is printed it doesn't take effect, but from how I'm reading the final decision, both will remain as open roads.nonot wrote:The FR 415 extension of 1438 seems to be designated for closure under the proposed motor vehicle use plan

We went up 415 and I think 1439 and hiked off trail over to the DG grave. The ranch was uninhabited when we did this and road had no gate. The connection to the beeline was different - more like T junction. I'm guessing late 80's or early 90s.
