Re: Atmosphere Comparison
@DixieFlyer
Probably. I read about a month ago cold and dry for winter. I just hope not too cold, as I like those 70 degree days. I wonder how dry, though? 2011 was extremely dry for half the state, and not that bad for the northwestern half.
Looks like I won't be snow shoeing on the Catalinas! Or, on the Rim, or most anywhere else.

Let's hope this one is closer to 16-17 than 17-18!

Re: NOT the I-17 thread
@big_load
I live in Westcliffe and get up to Salida maybe once a week. We've had a dry August, September and early October so the water levels were pretty low this fall. Lack of monsoonal moisture didn't help either. They regulate the water in the Arkansas to maintain a certain level no matter how dry it gets. It was low but would have been lower if they didn't up the flow.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Still kinda hot out. Low 90s in both Phoenix and Tucson, yesterday. The cool down forecast for later this week is now only the middle 80s, not high 70s, and this will probably persist for the next 2 weeks according to the NWS. Not sure how I feel about that, since 83 degrees is usually very nice!
Last year on 11/11 when hiking Kimball, I noted some lingering snow near the summit. I wonder how long before I see that around here, as I hope we don't see a repeat of the 2017-2018 winter, where it was basically 80 most days.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
There’s another thread that apparently thinks it can challenge for beating a dead horse further to death with lots of irrelevant words.
I’m here to remind everyone that the original is still the best, and catching up will take a lot more than writing some bad reviews on moosejaw.
So here it is… the newly released 21 monsoon review! Lots of pictures, graphs and data. You can bitch to the head of NOAA if it doesn’t fit your fancy.
Enjoy!

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
If the unscientific method of comparing today's weather to Thanksgiving 2017 is any indication, we won't be having a hot dry winter where it is in the low 80s most days from December to February. Thanksgiving 2017 saw 89 degrees in Tucson, 87 in Phoenix. Forecast is for the high 60s here, mid 70s in Phoenix.
Apparently Snowbowl is open with 1 lift and a few trails being open. I guess that is good, since about 1 week ago they had to delay due to warm weather. It's all man made snow, though, so there is that.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Place your bets now for how bad the drought will be by May! How many forests closed, fires, the usual stuff. I bet Vegas has a pool somewhere, for betting on drought, I mean. 85 forecast for me tomorrow, 84 in central Phoenix. I think it's December 1, tomorrow.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
I'm back in NJ today, still marveling at how warm it was in AZ and UT during my trip. I didn't even need to wear a sweater during 7 days (and evenings) in Phoenix, which I don't recall on any previous visit at this time of year. UT was cooler, of course, but still unseasonably warm for both of my stretches there.

Looks like some storms and seasonable cool downs may finally be coming! Next week might be interesting. Not that I mind these temperatures.
