2021 Fire Season

Commence your freakout. Might burn the mountain, might not.
I saw the large smoke plume yesterday around 5 PM in a Satellite image but figured it was so large that it must have been a cloud shield. Nope.

Hmm, well, I would think that comes with the territory of having psychosis (or other.) What the person thinks and does will seem strange.

Re: 2021 Fire Season
That looks like it is on the upper slopes around the saddle and near the trail, directly below Wrightson. Even though that is human caused, most likely, that area has needed some low intensity reburn, and soils were moist on Saturday in most areas. I think this will overall end up being a beneficial fire. It would be nice to let it burn a decent size portion of the mountain.

Re: 2021 Fire Season
CNF posted an update. It's up to 9 acres.
Seems to be expected fire behavior for October temperatures after a summer of good rain on the mountain.

Looks like it's in the Kent Springs / Roger's Rock / Four Springs trail area. Hopefully it's just underbrush as it would be a shame to see that beautiful area torched. .

Re: 2021 Fire Season
Anymore updates about this fire? I'm anticipating that the Old Baldy Trail/Trailhead will be closed this weekend. I was thinking of Wrightson, but if closed I guess Kimball is an okay second.

Wildfire Update: The Madera fire is still active and being managed on the Coronado. Resources have hiked in this morning, (October 21st), and have confirmed that containment line has held through the night. The fire is still approximately 9 acres in size. Cause of ignition is unknown. Approximately 45 personnel made up of one State hand crew, a BLM engine, and a Forest Service engine are on scene.
A closure order is in place for the following trails until October 24th:
the entirety of the following National Forest System Trails: Armour Springs (Trail Number 71), Bog Springs (Trail Number 156), Cave Canyon (Trail Number 149), Crest (Trail Number 144), East Sawmill Canyon (Trail Number 146), Florida Canyon (Trail Number 145), Four Springs (Trail Number 940), Gardner (Trail Number 143), Josephine Canyon (Trail Number 133), Kent Springs (Trail Number 157), Old Baldy (Trail Number 372), Super (Trail Number 134), and Temporal Gulch (Trail Number 595) Trails.
The Restricted Trails also includes the eastern portion of Agua Caliente Trail (Trail Number 140) starting at the intersection of Very Steep / Vault Mine Trail (Trail Number 77) and Aqua Caliente Trail eastward.

Wildfire Update: The Madera fire is now 70% contained. Today, there are one Type 2 crew, one Type 6 engine, 2 medics, 2 LEOs, and one Type 2 helicopter assigned to the fire. All temporary trail closures signs are posted. The public is reminded to stay away from the area.

Re: 2021 Fire Season
I'm interested in the outcome of the investigation as to the source of this fire. Clear weather pretty much eliminates a natural start, but this isn't an area that would be normal to camp or build a fire. It's on a steep slope and appears to be several hundred feet above the Four Springs trail. Hiker/hunter/camper? Military flare? Jewish space lasers?

@chumley
According to the viirs hit that I posted part of the activity was just above Roger's Rock where I feel like I've seen a campsite. The other is just above the Four Springs trail as it's drawn on the USFS map. Agreed that the overall placement is rather odd though.

Re: 2021 Fire Season
Has anyone been into the Santa Teresas recently to see the burn severity of the Pinnacle Fire? Forest Service office has no information.

Much of the thick brush heading up to Pinnacle Ridge has been entirely burned off, leaving nothing but blackened, woody skeletons.
