@bbarnett
The reservation is closed, so there is no legal way to get to South Bass at this time

Then why is the Park handing out permits? (Assuming @bbarnett has one.)

There is no legal way to DRIVE to South Bass at this time, as the only road open to motor vehicle travel crosses the reservation, which is closed to access until 5/31/22.

@azbackpackr
That is a good question, although you could drive to the reservation boundary and walk to the South Bass TH. However, that is not something that I would want to do. There are different jurisdictions here -- the National Park issues permits, but the Kaibab Forest MVUM along with the reservation closure keeps you from legally driving to the TH.

There are various non-rez motorized work-arounds that have been created (and improved since covid lockouts) to access S.B.. Legal? Who knows... but cars/trucks are parked at SB all the time since the lockout.

Unless you can cite either NPS or FS documentation that indicates something that has changed, I know, and so do you.
