Aug 26, 2021, approximately 10:45 a.m., a 65-lb. mountain lion attacked the boy in his front yard, inflicting wounds to his head, neck and upper torso. The boy’s mother fended off the lion by striking it multiple times. The boy’s parents transported him to a hospital where he was treated for his injuries. He remains in the hospital in stable condition.
Research seems to indicate that the attack was from a year-old cub birthed by a collared lion in an NPS study. The attacking cub was eliminated, while the mother (and presumably the other cub) were returned to the wild.
If you are unfamiliar with Calabasas, it is similar to parts of the Carefree/Cave Creek area with affluent residents and larger properties tucked up against mountains that are preserved from development.
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.
@DixieFlyer
So the lion we found had been orphaned about a month, it’s most likely candidate for mom may have been one that was tagged from Campaign Creek about a month before we saw her. Maybe you did see mom and dates are wrong, but the area is known for lions and is heavily hunted I was told.
That kitten ended up being a bit of a saga. Eventually, she got caught raiding chicken coops and was captured. She is now living at the SW Wildlife. Her name is Poppy.
YES! "A giant asteroid that’s 3,500 feet wide is hurtling toward Earth right now" too bad it is scheduled to miss us by a million miles or so. But what if it takes a turn??!!
Hikers freeze as cougar prepares to pounce Links to two different perspectives of this event.
A group of hikers recently shared a walking trail with a mountain lion at Big Bend National Park, Texas video shows, and the big cat was on the hunt. [ youtube video ] [ youtube video ]
@chumley
Note: There was no screaming or wig out as the mountain lion that was just going about it's business.
Hopefully the Grass Shack backpacker, and people that intentionally interfere with legal hunters take note.
On Saturday, Jan. 27, a mountain lion attacked Furgus in his backyard. Yet, somehow, his owners tracked down the mountain lion — coming face to face with the cat — and rescued their pet.
1) There used to be a campsite right off the runway at the Georgetown airport. I used to fly in and camp there 20 years ago.
2) The story says "To guard against attack, they caution people not to hike alone..." I understand the thinking. But apparently didn't help the two brothers.
Does anyone remember when Dallin tossed some of his dinner at a mountain lion in the dark, thinking it was a dog or coyote? I lazily searched for that triplog or posting of his, but couldn’t find it. Pretty sure it was on the AZT somewhere between Picketpost and Rogers Trough.
@LindaAnn
HAZ Deep Search (TM) didn't come up with anything that matched your description exactly, but the closest I've found was this triplog about discussing a mountain lion while making dinner: [ triplog ]
Hike Arizona it is full of sharp, pointy, ankle-twisting, HAZmaster crushing ROCKS!!
Hike Arizona it is full of sharp, pointy, shin-stabbing, skin-shredding plants!
Hike Arizona it is full of striking, biting, stabbing, venomous wildlife!
@nonot
He probably told me about it in person. Must have been sometime around 2016-2018. It would have been a different hike than the one in the linked triplog.

according to local television news HAZ's own azlumberjack is the verified expert on the biannual social media craze. Reports from licensed therapists indicate that scores of disappointed influencees have been tragically affected by the number of cloudy days surrounding the 2024 cougar equinox season.
