Good winter hike near Idaho Falls

Post by ddgrunning »

Heading up to the cold country of southern Idaho for Thanksgiving. Looking for recommendations for a good winter hike within an hour or so drive from Idaho Falls. Any recommendations?

Try Big Southern Butte. https://www.summitpost.org/mountain/153868

There is a log, https://hikearizona.com/x.php?I=4&ZTN=17775&UID=0 it can be hiked as well as driven, but looks like an interesting summit.

I think there is some type of riverwalk that isn't on HAZ. I believe I saw it advertised on my one and only time while driving through but didn't have the opportunity to hike it. The only nearby hike on HAZ is the 20 mile trail, which is apparently a lava field hike, not something everyone would enjoy.

I did the River Walk [ photoset ] this summer but I'm thinking you want something a little more challenging. I'm not that familiar with other stuff around there other than the nice hike at I-15 and Blackfoot ID. Maybe @LindaAnn might know of something.
For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.

I'm sorry, I couldn't think of anything snarky to say regarding using "good," "Idaho," and "winter" all in the same sentence. I must be losing my touch! :D
