looks like a court ruled that people are responsible for their actions.

This is why you carry a $2 mirror from Wal-Mart in your backpack.

Re: Hiker Fined $300K for starting wildfire
I agree with holding people responsible for starting wildfires but this sentence does not seem proportionate to the amount of damage done when you consider that the man who started the Pipeline fire in Flagstaff only got sentenced to a year of probation. The Sycamore fire burned 230 acres while the Pipeline fire burned 26,532 acres.The Pipeline fire also damaged a pipeline in Inner Basin which supplies water to Flagstaff https://www.knau.org/knau-and-arizona-n ... e-flooding as well as causing flooding in Doney Park. The guy who started the Sycamore fire is appealing his sentence and if his lawyer is worth anything he will point out how disproportionate his clients sentence is when compared to the Pipeline fire.

There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings

@JakeG
I think that a better comparison is the penalty given to Valinda Jo Elliott, who started the Chediski fire; a court ruled that she was liable for $57,000,000 in restitution to the White Mountain Apache Tribe. The penalty given to the toilet paper arsonist was a joke, but not totally surprising since we are talking about Flagstaff.
