Model T in Petrified Forest
We are planning a trip to Pilot Rock, Onyx Bridge and hopefully the Model T. But I can't seem to track down a location of it. Anyone have any GPS coordinates for it, I would appreciate it.

PaleoRob might know. I'll see if I can get in touch with him. He doesn't post here often any more.

Definitely not a Model T... looks more like a Model A.wallyfrack wrote:Is this the one?
(Of course someone may have dubbed it a Model T sometime back and the story continues as is...)

That is the only readily accessible rusted out Ford I am aware of in the park. It is near the north entrance to the park right along the main park road.

That's cool but that's not a Model T. Not sure what it is. This is the car:

Re: Model T in Petrified Forest
@azbackpackr
The park lists that as being in the Petrified Forest Wilderness. The northern wilderness with Pilot Rock is part of that of that wilderness and tends to have that reddish mudstone shown in the picture...but there is also wilderness at the southern end of the park too. The rocks tend to be a bit more "stripey" down that way, but still.

Go there, and ask a ranger when you get your backpacking permit. That's the best I can suggest.

Re: Model T in Petrified Forest
That is a 1932 Studebaker. Not a Ford Model T or Model A.
This 1932 Studebaker commemorates a stretch of the original Route 66 that used to run through here. This is just north of the I-40 and the divide of the Park between the Painted Desert and the Petrified Forest.
I didn't realize this was such a bad neighborhood. Park your car outside overnight and they steal the tires right from under you.

Anybody can make a hike harder. The real skill comes in making the hike easier.
