Neo air pad - Broken baffles

Post by azbackpackr »

The baffles in my Thermarest Neo air Xlite pad have started failing. So now there's a big puffy spot in the middle of the pad, making it rather uncomfortable! I'm sitting in my tent at Lake Mohave, 3:30 a.m.
Puffy spot keeps getting bigger.

Whenever one of the baffles fails there's a rather spectacular pop! Has anyone else experienced this with their Neo air?

I just now sent a message with photos to Cascade Designs, asking if it's covered under warranty. They have an easy form to fill out.

Haven't personally had it happen but I've known a few people had it happen and cascade was great and quick with the warranty, and these were pads that were used and abused on long thru hikes. Great warranty and they don't seem to try and mess around about it.

Mine is at least 13 years old and so far its only problem was an easily-repaired cactus poke. How old is yours?

I bought a NeoAir in 2015 and this has happened twice so far. Both times replaced for free under warranty.

Mine is only about 3 years old. As others have mentioned they are very good about their warranty replacement. I have already heard back from them. They want me to take photos of it, and put some markings on it. I just got back from a camping trip and I need to reread the email and follow through.

The new pad arrived quickly. It is made with a different outer finish, so it isn't as noisy. Also it's a bit wider so it's likely to be quite a bit more comfortable.

That's nice. Here's hoping the baffles in mine start bursting soon. Ha. I got mine in 2015 and have used it for hundreds of nights and have had three minor leaks I've needed to patch.

Another thing that has happened to mine is a faulty valve. I could not find the hole to save my life so I sent it back and they sent me a new one. That has happened a couple times, one each for each one of my pads. So neither one of my two pads are the original one that I purchased.
