Map of the Goldfields?

Post by herdbull »

Anyone know of any map(s) of the Goldfields that is available for sale? I had good luck tracking down a book of the hiking trails. Now the other half (eye roll) is looking for a bigger, fold-up style map of the Goldfields. We have a really nice one of the both the western and eastern Supes but now she asks if I knew of any maps.

The goldfields aren't a popular area, and other than the one book, haven't been promoted as a hiking area. I doubt that a commercially produced map is available, so your best bet might to be to copy/make your own map and take it to a local print shop. HAZ can plot multiple simultaneous trails for you on various map overlays, so maybe start with a screenshot on a large resolution monitor.

I checked my map library, and you may want to obtain a copy of the Superstition and Four Peaks Wilderness Areas Tonto National Forest by National Geographic It would be a start, but it only depicts roads in the Goldfields. As for the USGS topo maps you may want to include the four maps that depict the Goldfields. Apache Junction, Goldfield, Mormon Flat Dam and Stewert Mountain. Upon you review you may need only two for areas you are interested in. After you obtain the maps lay one out and place a piece of plastic over it and transpose the info from the book onto the plastic and if done correctly then draw it on the topo map. Note that the book uses place names that are not labeled on the USGS topo maps.

At one time at most blueprinting shops and print shops you could define an area you wanted printed out from several topo maps but to fit the sheet of paper the size and scale would be reduced.
