Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Planning to drive to S TX for the Eclipse on Monday afternoon. As of the forecast tonight, the wx isn't looking good for viewing. (Clouds with rain in the afternoon.)
Be careful. It really is "a jungle out there."

I see sunny now, for Monday here in Marinara. High of 73. Of course, South Texas will be where the action really is, and you can visit Llano and get some BBQ.

A splendid late-April day across the northland! Showers and thunderstorms, hail, and webcams aplenty showing snow falling above 7,000 feet. These are some of my favorite things!

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
I was very moist after my hike today. Wet, windy and 44 degrees made it a bit nippy.chumley wrote:Showers and thunderstorms,

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Well, I usually don't complain about the weather. But man, it is nasty up here. I went up to the South Rim for a job today, and it was cold and sleeting. And very windy. Same thing here in Flagstaff. Not fun driving the bus in it, either.

Yeah, this isn't ideal weather for this time of year. Hopefully the 19 inches of new snow that Snowbowl reports melts quick with the warm temps next week.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Late last night I finished driving to NJ from Grand Gulch. It was unbelievably windy the whole way. Driving was a struggle, especially with all the trucks blowing around.

Colorado or is that Utah? I guess that wasn't I-40, as that is shut down from a train derailment.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Just lovely weather we're having. Just a gentle breeze here in the northern part of the state.

Looks like the strongest reported gust was at noon at 60 MPH at the airport in Flagstaff. And that was with a sustained breeze of 45 mph. I was out hiking! And now it's raining!

The frost on my car here in Flag is a bit shocking to see. Not entirely, as I know it can get that cold even in early June, but after the heat of the last few weeks, frost and ice are somewhat impressive. I head to back to Dead Horse Ranch today, so it should be the last of the cold for a while.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Forecast trends are leaning toward the potential for some unusual moisture to enter the region in about a week and a half. I'm not really sure what that means since "normal" is zero. A 45% chance of more than zero could still be nothing more than a stray cloud somewhere! Is this speculative moisture influx the result of an early monsoonal flow?

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Last year had 54 days of 110F or above at PHX, breaking the record, and more than doubling the average of 21 days. It included a stretch of 31 consecutive days of 110 or above.
Today is the first 110 for 2024, and may we all join together and hope that the numbers fall far short of those recorded last year.

@chumley
At least up here in Rim Country, ANY moisture during the May-June drought period usually spells disaster for our Monsoon season, I'm not liking how things are looking at all.
