Historic tower in Death Valley damaged as person attempted to free vehicle from mud

Post by Pivo »

A person whose vehicle likely got stuck in some mud in Death Valley damaged a historic tower when a winch was used to pull the vehicle out of the mud. The National Park Service is now looking for that person.
The 113-year-old salt tram tower in Saline Valley was damaged and knocked down sometime between April 1 and April 24, according to NPS.

Usually I’d commiserate with an act of desperation but it’s signed everywhere to not leave the roads in the first place - it’s almost like there’s a reason why they warn you repeatedly [-(

Yeah, it's not surprising that clay/mud layers at the lowest spot on the continent might be didn't and wet for quite a while after historic flooding.
