Re: Atmosphere Comparison
National Weather Service says this was the most humid summer on record in the US and globally. It sure seemed that way in NJ.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
@big_load
I think is has been ridiculously humid this summer in NJ. I don't remember it being like this. Yes, late summer would often have oppressive humidity, although I can't recall if the dew points were in the high 70s and even low 80s in the past the way I experienced this summer. However, this summer started very humid and stayed that way until about 10 days ago. It has been more "normal" or reasonable, since.
24 years ago, I recalled Memorial Day to early July time frame being the most pleasant time of year with nice temperatures, long sunny days, and fairly agreeably humidity. I felt like I was back in Florida!

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Here is a map showing regional variations in temperatures in the summer of 2024. This summer it was much warmer than normal on the coasts; about average in the middle of the country.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Phx had a delightfully cool August compared to last year.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
I haven't seen Tucson post their summer recap yet, but PHX tallied the hottest summer on record (the top 5 are in the last 10 years).
Flagstaff reported record warm summer temps for a number of locations across their forecast area.

It happend today. 100 for 100. Not a new documentary series on ESPN Fire.chumley wrote:it seems to be a slam dunk that we will eclipse 100 consecutive days of 100+ temps.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Prediction for a blip of moisture to come thru this weekend. 50% chance of rain Sat/ Sun and highs below 90. I am sure it will change but it's been in the forecast now for several days.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
@RedRoxx44 If the forecast holds for PHX, Saturday will be the 111th consecutive day reaching 100. And Sunday will be the first day not to reach that mark since May 26th. Still a few days for that all to change.
It looks like 61 might be the final total for number of days reaching 110, so I'd say there's an outside chance that by the end of the season fully half of the days reaching 100 will have also reached 110. Yikes.
I'd be happy to see some tropical moisture surge up this way this weekend.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
So much for the forecast end of the 100+ streak. I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict we'll keep it going again tomorrow too. Add that to the disappearing chance of any rain at all, and it seems to be déjà vu all over again.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
We got some rain down south. A large cell over the Santa Ritas'. Lightning show in Mexico. Humidity right up there. Flash flood warning for east Pima county I think. Hot when the sun was out and heaven when it wasn't with the light wind. I got a good hike in and lots of cloud pictures.

@RedRoxx44
I never did see the summer recap from the Tucson office, but there were plenty of days I noticed good storms on the radar across the Catalinas, Ritas, and (surprising to me) west onto the Tohono reservation. I'm jealous of you!

66/100ths on Hopkins @RedRoxx44
https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries? ... 3&hours=72
Also, somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 inch on the Wrightson tile, per the precipitation analysis. My guess is closer to 1/2 based on the nearby Hopkins total and adjacent tiles being in the 1/2 to 3/4 area.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
With a wager of 9/22, @outdoor_lover wins with the closest, as 9/17 will be the first day under 100, breaking the streak at 113 consecutive days. @fotg 's 11/3 wins second place. Joe will contact you on how to submit the proceeds of your winnings.chumley wrote:would anybody care to wager when the first <100 day will occur?

Just seemed right to go with the Fall Equinox.

Looks like we have some nasty hot weather headed our way with triple digits for the foreseeable forecast. Glad I got some of my more pressing yard work done.
