NWS Flag shared this graphic today. I often encounter people who dismiss or minimize record temperatures in the valley due to the contribution of the urban heat island. I don't think there are many who dispute that development has contributed to warmer temperatures (especially nightly low temperatures) in the valley. In that context I do appreciate comparing temperatures from stations that have a long history of recorded temperatures, but which have not grown or developed over the years. In this one, it's interesting to see how warm Winslow has been. It's a city that has actually gotten smaller over the past 30 years.

I wish there were better historical records for Gila Bend, a low desert city that has had stagnant population growth and is far enough away that it shouldn't be influenced by the pavement and shingles in the Phoenix metro. But there isn't.

That's it. Today marks the 21st consecutive day of record warm temperatures at PHX. Three straight weeks!
Tucson is on 11 consecutive days, and 18 of 19 with record warm highs.

The good news is that it's over. Tomorrow will not break a record, and won't even break 100. Today might even be the last 100 day of the year (hahaha, sure!)

Through today, PHX has had 147 days of 100+ (previous record 145 in 2020), and 71 days of 110+ (previous record 55 in 2023).
Yes, 40% of the year it was 100+ at PHX, and 19% was 110+.

Tucson broke its record for days 100+ with 112 days (previous record 108 in 2020).

The forecast even has below-normal highs in the 80s this weekend. And a chance of rain! Maybe THEY do control the weather after all!

Newsweek blurb some weather folks predicting heavy atmospheric river conditions in northern Cali starting in Nov/Dec; dropping to So Cal and perhaps some of the southwest starting in Jan, then a retreat back up north in February. Don't hold your breath.

Not weather but the moon looks amazing thru light clouds then look toward sunset and see the comet?? Very bright but no tail. I feel like I am supposed to be dancing around a campfire right now.

Meanwhile, we are having a cold thunderstorm here in Flagstaff. It's supposedly going to turn to snow overnight, with an inch predicted, and 28 degrees. I'll be leaving for my winter digs in the desert on Sunday.

I heard it snowed 6-8" on the North Rim the day after we came out. It was roasting hot while we were down, but I could tell the weather was changing. We had bits of rain early in two nights and during one day.

NYC is a couple days from notching its driest month in recorded history. There is little chance of precipitation before the month is over.

Been real dry around these parts. It's very nice, like home. I know it will break, as I remember these things, and then it can be like a never ending parade of wet. So many are complaining about it, but it feels normal to me. 45 inches of rain in a year is ridiculous!
