Plans fell through this weekend...anyone wanna go hiking?
I gotta get outta Phoenix! Anyone up for a 6-12 mile hike somewhere relatively northward? Verde Rim might be nice this time of year...Sedona? Prescott? I'll drive...

hiking plans this weekend
jw63 and I...and possibly his friend Tom...will attempt Six Shooter this Sunday if anyone wants to join. We'll meet at Steve's Cycle Shop in Mesa at 7:30 am on Sunday. I can drive at least four people.
This hike looks really challenging and I may very well fail to reach the peak but then again what do I have to lose but my hiking reputation in front of other HAZers?

Hooked-up with Ksorensen, and nobody else joined-up so we had a HAZ group of two.
This was a near-perfect hike with near perfect conditions! Well, that is, if you're up for a 10 mile, six hour, +3760 gain rigorous day hike under the pines!
What a beautiful place to hike, all pine and oak forest, probably around 75-100 years since the last burn. At the summit, there are some house-sized boulders, and on top of one of those there appear to be petroglyphs, but some grafiti makes you wonder. Totally outstanding!
We discussed a variation of shuttling trail bikes up the FS road and then driving down and hiking up then biking back to the TH. People must do this occasionally, no?

Little Late/no problem
In response to AnthonyPowell's reply:
Hey Anthony!
PM me with some possible days to hook-up, especially if you'd be into shuttling the bikes. Ksorensen probably has weekends only, etc., and, unfortunately, I rarely can get a weekend day. Can you get out on a non-weekend day?
This is a great hike and coupled with riding MTBs down, it'd be good for any season of the year! And the descent (on road), given the size of that mountain, should be a blast! Plus, there must be many, many opportunities to explore the various trails (where permitted), on the downside.
Anybody else?
Jim.

Re: Little Late/no problem
In response to jw63's reply: i may be too late with this but... you can get a well detailed trail/road map at the ranger station up six-shooter cyn rd. they also have individual info sheets for the diff. trails with info on what to expect and which would be best for the bike ride down, etc. and as i've come to expect from these rather lesser used forests the rangers are glad to have visitors and are quite helpful and friendly. wave when you get to the top.
