Backpacking Trip in August - 2 night - not hot with water???
Hi I am looking to take a small group on a two night backpacking trip in August. We live in Phoenix and can travel about 2-3 hrs if necessary. We are all in good shape so it doesn't have to be an easy hike. But I'm looking for a hike that won't be hot.
And hopefully with some water if possible. I've done several backpacking trips just fyi. Thanks for suggestions!

Cabin Loop is a typical recommendation for August:

Be aware of the forecast before you head out. August is the height of the monsoon. Activity typically ebbs and flows through the season, but higher elevations can be areas of severe weather. A backpacker was killed by lightning on the Cabin Loop six years ago. Lower elevations near water may be susceptible to flash flooding from rainfall in higher elevations.
None of these things should automatically dissuade you from backpacking in August, but they are things you should be aware of and prepare for in the days before you head out.

Oh ya, I guess if you moved here two years ago, you probably would be wondering, what is this monsoon thing I keep hearing about, lol. I think the likely hood of the rim being closed because its on fire or closed due to it being a tinder box would be more likely scenarios to plan around when venturing up there these days.

@Gilbur
If you're looking for more fabulous backpacking spots in August with some water, I'd consider checking out areas near Flagstaff, like Lockett Meadow, or even heading up toward the White Mountains. I took a trip to Bear Canyon Lake once, and while the trail wasn't long, the higher elevation kept the temperature reasonable, and the lake was a great bonus, perfect for some downtime.
When you're not in the mood for rugged hikes but still crave outdoor vibes, I'd recommend unique glamping experiences for something more laid-back and fun. If you are curious about options, see what's here for some ideas.
