Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Quite a bit of rain in Show Low in the last 16 hours, but haven't heard if any significant flooding here. Will be trying to get to Phoenix on Monday.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
The early results on Thursday and Friday had me thinking this might be an over-hyped dud. It has turned a bit more impressive. My backyard is up over 2.4" so far, and some of the totals in the high country are impressive looking.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Starting from the Mystery Castle at 9th St & Mineral, I hiked part of the Holbert Trail at 5pm yesterday. There was a waterfall just west of the trail dumping down the wash into the flooded retention area, closing that part of the trail. South Mountain Lake!

In a week, nice chunks of the Mogollon Rim and southeast valley have moved completely out of drought status!

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Seems early. Could simply be that any storm will get to the Rockies after 7 days, but Colorado and the upper Colorado River are noticably dry from this event in the 7 day model. Still, nice to see rain and maybe snow in mid-November.

@Jim
How cool, we'll be out there via the Aqua Caliente rd. Getting some rain on a desert camp would be great.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Figures. I have friends flying in from MN next Tuesday and I'm taking them up to Marble.Canyon. My guess is that Waterholes Canyon will be cancelled on Wednesday. The annual Thanksgiving storm just couldn't wait until Thanksgiving week. But we need this so, it is what it is. That's what I get for planning a flash flood prone area this time of year.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
The Mrs. and I are camping by Fourth of July butte a ways off of Agua Caliente rd. We got our wish about rain. About 2 am last night a nice drizzle. At 3 while lazing listening to the patter I suddenly saw the veins in my eyes and also the faces of my ancestors. The thunderhead started here and lasted about 45 minutes, not moving much. It was a biblical rain for 3 hours and then came in waves. At 10 I said, even if we wanted to leave we can't. What an awesome time.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
I think it's safe to say that so far this storm has overperformed the forecast.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
That's great, and sounds like sorta scary fun, @Alston_Neal huddled in your cozy RV. I can relate!
I am pretty sure we won't be getting a deluge here in Eagar. I think it's just going to be a bit of rain and a sprinkle of snow over several days.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Gray skies and incredible low clouds since Tuesday at Marble.Canyon and Page. Rain has been mostly intermittent with no real gully washers until one last night. While the washes have some running water, nothing was flashing except probably a bigger chance last night as the rain was definitely much harder for a bit. While.our canyon trip was cancelled, we were still able.to get out and do things for short periods of time without rain gear which has been nice. Going to try to do Toadstools today, will gauge the risk, since some of that hike is thru a wash. May try to get the canyon in tomorrow before I put friends back on a plane in Flag. This was definitely the best kind of rain needed here as it's soaking in more than running off. The vegetation is really needing it.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
NWS reports that PHX has tallied the wettest fall on record, with 6.32" since September 1. (Yes, the season we call fall runs from 9/1 to 11/30, astronomers be damned!). There's a chance for a bit more before the calendar turns, but these fall storms have been a welcome change.
"Fall" is not a typically observed timeline for rainfall, but the more commonly observed water year began in October, and for that we are off to a great start. Long-term forecasts suggest a drier and warmer than normal winter, but reality hasn't matched those forecasts recently, so there's still some hope.
Snowbowl reported 53" last week and is operating with a 40-inch base — before Thanksgiving! It's more than twice as much snow as any Colorado ski area, most of which are not even open yet.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
I made a snowman by the Flag Airport on Friday. A couple of inches even there. So nice to see all the white on the Peaks for sure! No snow at Marble Canyon, but the rain and clouds were amazing!
