I had the chance to observe three types of snake and their movement this week. The first a large and perhaps playfull black racer glided about the back yard with ease. At times I could not tell if I was chasing after it (I was assigned to remove it) or if it was chasing me. Several laps around the back yard it climbed a fence and broke away like Lance Armstrong from the peleton in the Alps.
The second was a gopher snake and while moving it made very sutle s turns and at times it would sprint in a straight line. Poking at it, it would curl up into a tight ball that perhaps I could bowl with it. I chose not to try this as I almost lost an arm wrestling contest to a slightly smaller one last week.
The third was a diamondback that moved in a straight line and so close to the ground as if hiding. It reminded me of a U boat lurking for a convoy before submerging into a hole without pause.
