weekday day hikes

Post by ajcanable »

Hello I was wondering if anyone would like to do some day hikes on weekdays in the supers. or somewhere else nearby? Does'nt really matter to me because I have'nt really been anywhere! (just moved here recently)I have weekdays free and could use a little less solitude when I hike! So if interested please let me know I'm ready to go with a moments notice.

In a couple more weeks I'll be doing short hikes in the supes after work on Fridays. Usually I start about 3:30-4pm and plan for just a 2-3 hour hike.

weekday hikes

Post by jw63 »

Hey,

I work almost every weekend, so my usual days off are weekdays.

Let me know your sched/preferences; For example, I'm into doing the Flatiron/Ridgeline anytime.

I'm planning on a solo backpack overnight on the ridgeline soon.

Also, I may do a Hieroglyphics canyon hike up to the Ridgeline - but that's climbing.

Some of us are trying to hook-up for a group overnight, from siphon Draw to Carney Springs, or the reverse, etc.

A few other HAZ people get mid-week days off, but not many.

Some weekend people are planning a First Water Trail loop soon. I don't know if I can make that one. And there are some upcoming sedona hikes, etc.

Jim.

In response to jw63's reply:
sounds like I better change my ability rating to "novice" because I dont think I can get to ridgeline without a helicopter! but please let me know if your going on any "old ex-smokers" type hikes.

I'm thinking of doing the Massacre Falls trail on Thursday 10/9 if you're interested. It's a nice three mile hike with some good views. I would like to get an early start (0600). Let me know....

In response to jw63's reply:

When do you plan On doing the flatiron/ridgeline. would that be a weekday hike or weekend. I ben trying to get some friends to do that but it just never works out. Do you ever go up by way of the Syphon (not sure of the spelling) Draw Trail?
Just to let you know I have next week off and was thinking about hiking that area.

In response to ajcanable's reply:

Andy,

I can relate to the "ex" smokers thing. What were we thinking all these years? I can't do a weekday thing (unless I ask for some PTO) since I do the M-F/8-5 grind but if you're ever looking for a partner on the weekends just let me know.

In response to Corey's reply: Thanks! yes I would like to go. I've been that way a couple of times before while it's been dry! I hear we might get some rain this week so maybe we could see the falls flowing. Is 0600 concrete?

In response to Trishness' reply: I believe I was thinking (at 18yrs.) I would'nt live to 48 years old! The things I put my body though, smoking seemed like the mildest bad habit I had! but it's been about 15 years since I quit and I quess I'll never get the "old wind" back. But thats ok it just means you may have to wait at the top for me a few moments.

I was thinking of trying to beat the heat, but no 0600 isn't concrete... is there a better time for you? We could meet at the First Water Trailhead Road turn off... Email me at corhiggins@msn.com

You can turn the massacre falls hike into a nice loop. If follow the wash that starts at the base of the cliffs and follow it to the first low saddle then cut west and follow the fence it takes you right back to the parking area, and it turns into a nice off-trail hike. Its pretty easy going, no real bushwhacking, just some boulder hopping. The area south of the MG is pretty untouched, most people just go in and out on the trail so you get to see some pristine country.

I'm not sure, but I think it would be the ramp cliff, its basically the end of the actual trail (where you wind up in that big 'platform').

The latitude is 33 27 10 N
The longitude is 111 26 30 W

-hope that helps...

In response to matt gilbert's reply: Yes! I had a couple of blisters from a new pair of shoes i got last week. So i figured I'd give the sandels a try .They were great except my toes got a little cramped from clinching them together to hold the sandel on.
(And congratulations on your recent nuptials)
