What are your views on naturists/nudists? Has anyone come upon a naked hiker/camper and what was the outcome ?

Monte,
Some years ago my wife an I spent a few weeks backpacking in Hawaii. On Kauai, there's a beach on the Kalalau Trail where people run around naked. That was fine, but one guy camped near us sort of attached himself to us, and while my wife was making lunch he was squatting there, aiming his tool at us. This was quite embarrassing for her. At the time I had my 8" (razor sharp) diving knife out for some lunch-related reason. I poked it toward (within inches of) the guy's gear and said why don't you put that away, Nature Boy, before something happens to it.
You would be AMAZED at how effective that is in getting these nakes to stop waggling their willies in your direction!

Yea Wiz, Nothing like threatening to cut someone with a knife to put a stop to that naked stuff, the nerve of those wankers anyhow. The sight of naked human flesh freaks me out too, I hear you man! I got the kids to stop riding their scooters on my street with a few well placed sticks of dynamite, and I'm no longer am pestered by those bible thumpers since I started answering the door by wearing a hockey mask and pointing a shotgun at them.
More later, I'm trying to complete work on my manifesto.

In response to Snick33's reply:
What are you trying to tell me, Snick? Come on, don't hold back!
FYI, I never threatened to cut anyone. I merely pointed, and let his imagination do the rest. You could be a little less judgmental - after all, you weren't there and don't know what my provocation was. What I recounted was the sanitized version.
Good luck with your manifesto.

Not holding back, I wasn't there either. But perhaps telling him to leave might have been a good start. That's what road rage is all about, I cut someone off, a mistake, I'm sorry; the response? he runs me off the road, or shots are fired. The law, and I suppose moral character allows a metered response to a situation. You can stop someone from breaking into your house, but you can't shot him if he's unarmed kinda thing. What did you think he was going to do with his package anyway? bitch slap you with it? If he refused to leave, or threatened you, go to plan "B," but I'm suggesting it's not a great place to start. I'm sure he noticed your knife anyway, and mentally said to himself:"I've brought my package to a knife fight again, damn!"
I'm sure you were offended, it sure seems like it, I'm simply suggesting threatening with a knife was over the edge, (pardon the pun). I deal with my aggressive anger by writing letters, nasty letters, horrible letters, sick letters, that's the bad news, the good news, I never send them. Oh, except to QWest which I think anyone would excuse me for doing.

In response to Snick33's reply:
Bitch-slap me?
Ah, Snick. Well, since any reply to your comments would entail a lengthy explanation of the circumstances, as well as trying to justify my actions to you (neither of which I am inclined to do), I'm going to drop this particular exchange with this statement: What action you take when someone pokes their schlong into your wife's face is up to you. Don't be so quick to criticize the action I took. Again, you weren't there. My own feeling is that I exhibited remarkable restraint. And no one got hurt.
You know, some of your one-liners aren't so good after all. Maybe you should edit your material.

My post here is inconsequential in regards to the subject of this thread for I have only read the last two pages and have not involved myself in the conversation, but the post preceding mine has left me with a thought or two to put into words.
It seems the "overblown" subject has been somewhat misguided in the more recent posts. What I assume to have been a healthy discussion of electic views might have become derailed by sarcastic barbs. These can be welcomed in a debate (I include my fair share of sarcasm in discussions), but can become a problem when it replaces the debate.
With all do respect to the previous poster, it would be such a loss for you or anyone to regress on their expressed perspectives, whether it be about sex, religion or politics. Imagine all of the centuries-old philosophies we would lose if we were to exist on a platform of unmitigated censorship! Good-bye Plato! Good-bye Descartes!
It would seem the true strength of friendship would no only include common interests, but be built upon a deep respect for what distinguishes that person as well.
And now I realize that I have had water boiling for my hot chocolate for far too long. I hope I have not overstepped my boundaries.

Ok I have to say something here.......I have been to the hot springs and the campground at the verde river (Childs) many many times. There are a lot of people there running around in the campground naked. Now that doesn't bother me one bit, each to their own. "Each to their own" is the key phrase here, it seems that whenever I camped on the same side of the river as the nakie people there always seems to be a few that saunter right into a new camp. Why?
: I don't know, maybe they think I'm blind or something and are getting closer so I can get a better look. Who appointed them the official welcoming committee??
Some families make the long trip to camp down there and are not aware that nudism is freely practiced at that particular camp area. If people want to be nude then that is their perogative, been nekked myself a few times, but all I ask is that they stay in their camp unless they are invited to another camp. It is a matter of basic respect.
I now camp across the river and if they decide to walk across the river to invade my camp, then I will politely ask them to leave if I am so inclined. If I want to look at them then I have many pairs of good binoculars!!

User conflict
The "conflict" clearly comes in a clash of user types. Hey, if you have a place where you can all go and let it all hang out, more "power" to you.
But, let's get ONE thing straight. The Verde River between Beasley Flats and Sheep Bridge is Arizona's ONLY, repeat, ONLY Wild and Scenic River.
It was designated as such in August 1984 by an Act of Congress.
Maybe this doesn't "ring a bell" for any of you and, for you, we extend our sympathies. However, for thousands of people across America whose heart skips a beat at the mere mention of the words "Wild & Scenic," the Verde holds special magic.
Who says YOU and your NAKED friends have any right to DOMINATE the take out for this river? What gives YOU the right to offend whomever might paddle down the river to see your naked butt/pumpkin/whatever waving ashore?
If anything, this topic has energized us more to make the USFS get down there and enforce the no-nudity ban enacted in the early 1990's.
Give me a BIG BREAK, pals, just because YOU think being naked at Childs is COOL doesn't mean that's the way it is for the "rest of us." Are you so naive as to think that YOUR viewpoint is the ONLY one?
The Verde Rive Wild & Scenic Corridor is a NATIONAL LEVEL RESOUCE.
There is ONLY ONE take out/put in between Camp Verde and Sheep Bridge. If YOU think WE are gonna let it be dominated by a bunch of dum naked buttheads, think again!
J&S

Don't yell at me..lol...I'm not a nekked person.....my belly is too fat!!!! And there ARE signs posted in that area stating NO NUDITY ALLOWED....apparently some can't read....the forest service needs to sneak up and hand out some tickets, by the time they drive down there everybody has shorts on...

Every time this thing looks like it's going to die, it pops back up.
A post on a bulleton board isn't going to change anyones mind. It's not worth it to try to make others think the same way you do. It just makes you look foolish (been there...).
Post your opinion and argue, but have fun and don't take it so personal.

PFredrics is a pot stirrer.
I like that. I think I'll join in:
America - the last bastion of correct thinking conservative moral values in the world - or so we imagine ourselves.
PFredrics brings up a good point - just about the only place in the world where you can hike and NOT see people nekid is here in the good ol' US of A (and most of the middle east - but that is an entirely different discussion).
As he suggested - it's just a point to ponder.
And I still say you havn't lived until you've had your memory seared with the image of "Naked Arizona" on public access cable. [shudder]
